With 6+ months of staying in home and only past one month of takeaway and delivery i finally got a chance of dining out.. The destination was Ambur Star Biryani in Rajkilapukam which i was planning to try for quite some time actually..
Located just after sealaiyur/camproad signal and opposite to New Life hospital...The outlet has some decent road side parking space..
The Restaurant is small-medium sized restaurant to seat around 40-50 ppl in total.. Decently maintained too..
The servers and captain seem to follow protocols of gloves and masks with sanitization of hands regularly.. The order was taken promptly and food too was served in a jiffy..
Ordered a Chettinad Chicken Soup, Egg Podimass, Chicken Biryani, Prawn Thokku and Bread Halwa..
Chettinad Chicken Soup : This was one good soup.. Loaded with juicy chicken cubes this peppery rasam type soup was just lipsmackingly good.. And also might be a boon for the current situation...Must try..
Egg Podimass : Man this was one of the best podimass i have had in recent times.. The Perfectly made podimass was really subtle in taste...A definite try..
Chicken Biryani : Thier USP and this was no different...Had tried the original outlet in ambur long back so have memory of that taste but have regularly tried their vadapalani outlet quite often and this was quite close to it.. Juicy and abundant chicken pieces made me order and extra half kushka rice.. Perfect IMO..
Prawn Thokku : Paired it with the biryani and my god this was really good in taste.. The prawns were juicy and fresh in a yummy thokku..Just that the thokku could have been slightly thick..
Bread Halwa : Finished off the meal with a yummy bread halwa.. Taste wise it was a good one with a slight dry and rich texture..
A filling meal was also VFM and made me long for more.. Definitely visiting again...Definitely...
Read moreThis place used to be good initially. I'm not sure what went wrong. I had a horrible experience today. I found cockroaches running around all over the place. I should have walked off immediately but since I usually visit this place I decided to sit in a cleaner table instead which I feel is the biggest mistake that I have done.
I would have called up the food control department and reported immediately but since the store manager wasn't available there I didn't want to make it a big scene. I kindly request everyone who plan to visit this place to ensure that you take a second look if you are ordering anything apart from biriyani. This place is not like how it used to be.
I ordered for tandoori and it had extremely bad smell in it. If I'm right it must definitely be 2-3 days old. Even after I washed my hands I could get that foul smell. I reported it to the person incharge there and he gave me a casual look and no sort of apology was made. Atleast the cashier was kind enough to hear it out. Such a bad service. Kindly ensure you take strict actions against this so that you don't miss out on your business. Rotten chicken is something which could turn out to be fatal if consumed. It's high time you guys start acting responsible.
I was extremely concerned about the server's attitude. Such a bad attitude no sort of responsibility. He had gum in his mouth happily chewing it. I reported it to him and he just came and took the plate and walked off....
Read moreThe biryani was truly delightful, capturing the authentic taste of traditional Ambur-style preparation. Made with fragrant Seeraga Samba rice, it had a distinct aroma and fine texture that elevated the dish. The grains were perfectly cooked—neither too soft nor underdone—each one separate and infused with flavor. The biryani wasn’t overly spicy, yet it carried the signature depth and richness Ambur biryani is known for, developed from slow cooking and careful layering of ingredients.
What stood out most was the meat, which was cooked to tender perfection. It had absorbed all the flavors of the masala and spices, resulting in a juicy and flavorful bite every time. There were no shortcuts; the meat had clearly been marinated well and slow-cooked, just like how it's traditionally done in Ambur.
There was no overpowering use of red chili powder or green chili, staying true to the original recipe that relies more on dried red chilies ground into a paste for its heat and color. The subtle smokiness and use of whole spices gave the dish an earthy balance.
Altogether, the biryani was a fine example of authentic Ambur-style cooking—simple, robust, and deeply satisfying. It's a perfect choice for anyone who appreciates traditional Tamil...
