The food was decent but what stood out to me was their serving style and servicing staff behaviour, it's outright rude and lacked even the basic hospitality standards, not at all professional and a big reason why I would never visit this place again and probably why you should be skipping this place.
Just a heads up, I do understand that they could be there working under hard conditions all day and it's particularly difficult to just run around the whole day, but no where I have seen the people in the hotel and hospitality service showing faces to the guests. The person literally said that it was his time to leave and we should place the order and wind up our business as soon as we can even though there were like 30 odd minutes to their actual closing time. It wasn't even a request but sounded like a declaration. I don't know if this is something that's peculiar to this restaurant or just to the old man that served us. It wouldn't have turned out to be a nasty experience if the drama stopped there, but what made it a nasty experience was that the serving person reflected his anger to particularly make the servicing poor when we took our time to order and requested for accompaniments such as sambar and chutney that was never refilled after the previous party left the table. We just went and scoured it by ourselves from the other table as no one responded to the requests even after 5-10 minutes and this happened for sambar, chutney and gravy, so we kind of grew tired and frustrated as anyone would be if the food is served without accompaniment and left to go cold before you. If the accompaniments were running low or out, then isn't it the responsibility of the restaurant people to convey the same before taking the order?
Shortcomings and delays are common in hotels and we are no strangers to that. But people don't come to a restaurant to pay and eat to be treated this way. They come out to have good food and a quality time, and however great tasting the menu be, a bad service will always ruin the experience.
Maybe this might just be an issue of one person and doesn't reflect the servicing and hospitality standards of the restaurant or maybe not. If the management people are reading this, kindly take necessary steps to prevent any such...
Read moreWe are travellers to Kerala, happened to be in Coimbatore briefly twice in the past six weeks. Our homestay host in Saibaba colony highly recommended Ramesh Mess for all meals, and we ended up having breakfast and lunch twice each. Enjoyed every morsel.
Serves non veg also, which we didn't taste, but the vegetarian fare was authentic, tasty, filling and ridiculously inexpensive for a super-popular city food joint of such amazing quality. Idly, dosa, vada, appam, along with the coconut and other chutneys and sambhar are treats not to be missed, coffee is lovely. Lunch is available as limited (limited rice with unlimited sambhar, rasam, kootu, two types of vegetables, papadam and payasam for ₹80, plus pay ₹5 more for a cup of delicious curd) or unlimited (add three other dishes, ₹100). We had the limited meal which was more than filling and every item was perfect. Service is rapid, with a smile. Only Tamil is spoken, but one can manage with English and Hindi. Quite clean despite cramped space and very high turnover of guests and takeaway orders. Very helpful staff.
We would probably stop cooking at home if we lived close in Coimbatore to...

The star of the show for me was their Mushroom Biryani, a fragrant and flavorful dish that left my taste buds dancing with joy. Pairing it with their creamy Curd Rice was a match made in culinary heaven. The hearty Meals served during lunchtime were a true taste of South Indian authenticity.
