We had a very very bad experience at the Subway at VR Mall Chennai yesterday (05.Nov.2024). Not only was the quality very bad, we were even cheated by being charged extra for a cheese pull-out sandwich, but even the sliced cheese was absent. Here goes our bad experience: When we went to order our three subways the usual way by choosing the bread, fillings etc., the shop person insisted that he can take only online order & asked us to scan a QR code and make our choices along with a free cookie. We went to our seats & ordered for TWO veggie delites (15 cm), both parmesan oregano breads, with cheese slice, chosen veggies, sweet onion+ sw chipotle sauces etc. and ONE Aloo Patty sub (15 cm)..roast garlic bread grilled with cheese slice, chosen veggies, eggless mayo & EXTRA cheese pull (mozzarella) for which we paid extra. All subs were ordered as takeaways and the total I paid was Rs.585/-. When we went to the counter to check our order & see our subs being readied, even though there were no other customers, the counter person asked us to come back after few minutes or after we receive a message on mobile phone to pick up the order. Even after 30 mins waiting, we did not receive the message about our order. Again we went to the counter to check. This time they handed over the three subs in packed condition telling they were ready several minutes back(!!!) & in good faith we collected the bag and left the VR mall. Upon opening the wrappers after we left the mall, we were in for total shock: Instead of the roast garlic bread ordered for the grilled cheese pulled aloo patty sub, just plain bread was there and no grilling was done. Shockingly, there was absolutely no cheese in the 'Cheese pull Aloo patty sub'. No...not even the regular cheese slice, leave alone the mozzarella! Further though we did not order for onions or tomatoes in this sub, there were 3 big onion slices and 2 tomato slices. No olives, no capsicum, just a single jalapeno that were ordered! Instead of the mayo, there was a splashing of BBQ sauce that was not asked. These simply spoilt the sub for the one amongst us who do not like raw onion and raw tomato in their subs.
The TWO veggie delite subs were equally bad. While we ordered parmesan oregano bread, they had used just plain bread. No olives, no capsicum, no cheese slice & no pickle contradicting our order! Very little veggies such as a small strand of lettuce, a single jalapeno and single tomato slice were there apart from cucumber. Instead of the SW chipotle sauce they had put BBQ sauce that we hate. I am not sure if they had put the sweet onion sauce too as per our order. This Subway outlet appears not caring for the needs and likes/dislikes of their customers. Overall all the THREE subs we ordered were pathetic and we felt cheated by Subway. We felt very angry & helpless to realise that the cheese pullout sub, for which we paid extra, was without any cheese in it. Certainly this cannot be attributed to oversight as our other two subs too did not have any cheese in it even though we ordered for it. This tantamounts to cheating by this outlet & also explains why they were keen on keeping us away while they were readying our subs. AVOID ORDERING SUBS AT THIS SUBWAY OUTLET IN VR MALL, CHENNAI. There are better sandwich options available in VR Mall. We expect Subway India to compensate adequately for this lapse and return our bill amount of Rs.585 back immediately. Having reviewed thus, I wish to state that we have always loved Subway sandwiches for the past several decades & our experiences as family at various Subway outlets, whether in India, USA or in Japan, have been great. Unfortunately, after yesterday's pathetic and shameful subs we had from the Subway at VR Mall, Chennai my family members are totally switched off now and it may take quite sometime for us to recover. Read moreCockroaches roaming in food counter, not one or two, many. One cockroach was inside cheese tray, upon confronting the guy removed the tray from there. But then wait, no cheese in veg counter so guy was using cheese from non veg counter to make sandwich in veg counter, what a blunder! There was a trainee making sandwich, no uniform, not sure if he is a qualified food handler and taken hepatitis B injection. The guys insisting only order through QR code. If manual order is placed then only cash need to be paid and no electronic payment method was allowed. Felt something fishy. Yes off course I insisted for manual order and guy took cash and guess what? No bill. When insisted for bill, I was asked additional money of the GST and the guy made me wait 5 minutes to issue the bill.
If all these are happening, where is the shop manager? May be working from home?

Read moreI went to Subway to order corn peas, Hara bara kabab sub. While he was preparing the bread, me and my sibling spotted small cockroaches roaming in the vegetable storage zone. The cockroach hid while we called the manager. He denied of any cockroach and ignored it as a one of incident. By that time, the sub was prepared. While making payment there entered another 2 small cockroaches from inside of their vegetable container sides. We showed it to them, politely denied the prepared food and didn't make payment. We politely showed it to them and left. We didn't want to make it a scene in the busy food court. So didn't record any videos of the cockroaches. Our hunger died at that moment. Was a regular customer, now I decided not go to any Subway at all, as it always reminds me of unhygienic vegetables with cockroaches...
