I was like woaaah this is a huge place and can easily accommodate 100 people at once. I literally started thinking that it would be so much fun for corporate parties. They’ve got a big screen for enjoying Cricket / Football matches.
Coming from the legacy restaurants like Monis, Family Tree, Caravan, Mantraa, Barbeque Nation Thane, Kaala Chashma is their newest project. They wanted to come up with something for the love of Bollywood hence the name Kaala Chashma.
One of the best places to spend time with family/friends over some delicious food, drinks and great music (mostly 90s hit songs and Ofcourse the latest ones). People connect over the love for food. Moreover, if you are those who have had a great experience to have dined at a few lovely restaurants, why not share it with the world out there. Mr. Kabir (owner) was humble enough to give us an introduction on their newest addition. He told us how they will turn this place into a happening one in no time and trust me I had no doubts on it. The laid back atmosphere, luminous lights and comfortable couch seatings worked wonders to this place. Whether you are a group of 5/8/10/15 or a couple, they have seatings for evey set of people.
Service just splendid as our attendant was available for us at every beck and call. It took 10-15 minutes of an average time for each dish to arrive however mocktail took a little more time.
I loved the extensive menu they have curated. It offers multiple cuisines like Italian, North Indian, Asian. Soups, Bar bites, starters, Dim sum, Bao, salads, pastas, pizza, Thai, Chinese, etc. I really liked the section ‘Small plates’ which offers varieties of starters which goes well with the drinks.
Food:
Bale Bale Barley Soup (Highly Recommended): This tomato vegetable barley soup was served with cheese chilli toast. It is a good nutritious and healthy soup to enjoy during any season. Includes onion, carrot, celery, black pepper, basil, tomatoes. I am sure you will lick it in the end.
Thecha Chicken Tikka (Highly Recommended): It will just melt in your mouth. An authentic maharashtrian side dish made with green chillies and garlic. This recipe involves chicken cooked in Thecha. Serves 4-5 luscious pieces. A must try.
Hadippa Harissa Chicken (Highly Recommended): I urge you to order this, you will instantly fall in love with the tasty marination. Harissa is a zesty and aromatic chilli paste that’s considered a staple food in North African and middle eastern cooking. It includes smoked chilli peppers, tomatoes, garlic, spices like cumin, coriander and caraway cooked in olive oil.
Water chestnut shitake lamb Seekh (Highly Recommended): These were juicy and delicious. Despite being called chestnuts are actually a type of vegetable. Cooked with shitake which is an edible mushroom that grows on fallen timber. A must try.
Watermelon Feta (Recommended): This super easy but impressive salad recipe will quickly become one of your favourites. It has become a staple summertime dish. Watermelon, Arugula and crumbled feta will surely help you to beat this heat of Mumbai.
Massaman Chicken Curry (Highly Recommended): This massaman Chicken Curry is rich and flavourful. With chicken and potatoes cooked in the flavourful sauce, it is scrumptious. It goes well with chilli garlic naan and olive sundried tomato jalapeno Naan. A definite try.
Mocktails:
Apna thyme aayega: Subtly flavoured thyme with pineapple, mango, fresh mint, black pepper gomme balanced with citrus masala lemonade served with ice. Somehow felt i was having Rasna.
mango tamarind: Mango with a hint of tamarind topped with soda, another Rasna drink.
Dessert:
Hazelnut Cheesecake (Highly Recommended): The classic combination of chocolate and hazelnuts blends beautifully in this rich and creamy cheescake. I wish they could have topped it with hazelnut crust. A must try.
Kaala Chashma Signature (Highly Recommended): Well, this looked huge. Filled with chocolate later and mousse. It is worth a try, enough for 3...
Bling IT ONNNNN – Thanekars !!!!!!
Exploring quite a few places require two more set of eyes to touch your soul deeply inside….Kaala Chashmah brings to you one of the best nightlife experience in thane. On the menu Kaala Chashmah brings to you North Indian, Asian & Italian cuisines along with a list of signature cocktails to go for. To my notice their menu especially food menu has been updated with few more dishes. Put on your chashmah’s to explore kaala chashmah…..
Food:
1 Smoked Chicken Tikka – Bored of having the same old chicken tikka then visit Kaala Chashmah to witness your chicken tikka smothered with smoke… kudos to the presentation!! Perfectly marinated pieces of chicken with that aura of smoke making it more nom nom…..good food good mood.
2 Koli kab hai kab hai Koli – I had high expectations from this dish…Being a seafood lover was expecting pieces of deep fried fish to bring out the authentic Koli flavour to it…found it to be ok in terms of taste though the fish was tender…overall ok ok
3 Jamaican Jerk Prawns – Thrilled at the very first moment seeing those king sized prawns placed inside a margarita glass. So far never came across with this presentation. Taste wise prawns were cured with a bit of extra spices. Balance of right amount of spices was missing in it. Well this is one of the newest entry to the menu so there is room for improvement.
4 Hadippa Harissa Chicken – Bang on presentation of chicken cubes stacked in a stick marinated with harrisa sauce. To add more to its taste in between those chicken cubes there pieces of capsicum and tomato. Overall loved the sweet and spicy chicken cubes. Must try!!
5 Ultimate Butter Chicken – ummmmm!!! Not so sweet not so spicy…..perfect proportion of flavours in the butter chicken to end our mains…
6 Stress Less – Coming to the desserts this is one the newest entry. So basically it’s a Tres Leches pastry topped with whipped cream and placed over a pond of rabdi. Trifusion of whipped cream, pastry & rabdi was amazing.
7 Rab rab rabdi – I wished I could have more of that melting ras malai floating over a pond of rabdi. Adding extra oomph to the ras malai was the dash of mango pulp. Though since it was a dessert quantity wise it was less I know being greedy over here but they are sinful simply melts in your mouth.
Drinks:
1 Shandy Let’s Dance – Yes let’s rock & roll people. This cocktail lives upto its name. No show shining. On point concoction of whisky, orange mamalade, rosemary maple, house beer with bitters. Each sip of it has that tingy feeling playing with your tongue.
2 The Kaala Chashmah Black Out – Reminded of my childhood days went we had those colourful flavoured golas during summers. Completely blacked out with concoction of vodka, kala khatta, pineapple juice & berry.
Ambience – Everything is tip top here right from the entrance which had the kaala chashmah logo. As soon as you step inside one thing which grabs your attention is BLING IT ON lights. Entire area is quite spacious to host a private party. Each and every wall is well incorporated with artefacts, frames etc. As you raised your head up each and every table has its own lighting vibe. In fact the entire place is damn lit. Seating is comfortable for large groups to celebrate special occasions. Each chair around the table is different from the other one. With the clock ticking their DJ started playing some good music nos making the place livelier.
Service – Staff is courteous and humble. Our attendants Mr. Deepak and Rakesh were around us to help us with anything we needed. Thank you boys for the impeccable service.
