:: A Memorable Lunch at Moti Mahal ::
Stepping into Moti Mahal felt like entering a culinary paradise, where the aromas of diverse cuisines intertwined to create an irresistible allure. The restaurant offered an extensive array of options, from the rich flavors of North Indian delicacies to the subtle spices of South Indian fare, the comforting familiarity of Chinese dishes, the quick indulgence of fast food, and the vibrant tang of Indian street chaats. The menu also boasted an assortment of Indian snacks—golden samosas, crispy kachoris, and more—alongside pizzas and an exquisite selection of Indian sweets. From the creamy Malai Gilori and Malai Roll to the decadent Makhan Malai, the earthy Kali Gajar Halwa, the comforting Gajar Halwa, the luscious Imrati Rabri, the wholesome Moong Dal Halwa, and the delicate Chena Sweets, every item promised a journey of flavors.
The restaurant’s layout was thoughtfully designed, with ample seating spread across different levels. The semi-basement area, cozy and inviting, was dedicated to serving chaats and sweets, creating a lively atmosphere perfect for casual indulgence. On the first floor, the ambiance transformed into a fine-dining experience, with elegant decor and a more refined setup. Though the place buzzed with energy and a constant hum of chatter, it only added to its charm, reflecting its popularity among both travelers and locals.
During my visit, I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Mudita Vivek Singh, the General Manager and a member of the Moti Mahal family. Her presence was commanding yet graceful, as she managed the floor with the expertise of a seasoned professional and the warmth of a host. Her dedication and authority were truly commendable, adding a personal touch to the dining experience.
For my meal, I chose the Paneer Maharaja, a North Indian specialty that exceeded all expectations. The dish was a masterpiece—rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor, its quality nothing short of elegant. The portion size was generous, easily sufficient to serve five people, making it perfect for sharing. Alongside the main course, I indulged in the local chaats and sweets, each one a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to excellence. The Malai Gilori melted in my mouth, the Kali Gajar Halwa was a symphony of textures, and the Imrati Rabri was a sweet, indulgent finale.
Without a doubt, Moti Mahal is a culinary gem that caters to every craving, from breakfast to dinner. Its vibrant atmosphere, impeccable service, and exceptional food make it a must-visit destination. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you’re a traveler exploring the city or a local looking for a memorable meal, Moti Mahal promises to delight your senses and leave you...
Read moreIf you are in Lucknow and want to savour some good food and snacks, typical to north India, then Moti Mahal restaurant is the place. Located in Hazratganj market this is one of the most decent traditional eating place in Lucknow. A large crowd gathers outside on the evening when people, dressed well and out for 'Ganjing' stop here for some light refreshments.
Ganjing is a term commonly used to refer to those who are out in Hazrat Ganj to enjoy their evenings.
I like matar ki tikki very much. Sometimes I prefer eating it with lemon and sometimes with sweet chutney and curd. For ₹100 per plate this makes a good snack. I also like their aloo tikki. Moti Mahal prepares very good which you can try with bhatura or samosa or even with kachori. If you are here with a family and decide to have a heartful of snacks be ready to shell out nearly a thousand bucks. Whopping, isn't it??
I have never tried their south indian stuff mainly because I come from Delhi where you get an extremely good, aromatic stuff. I saw several people, mainly local, ordering south indian stuff. Masala dosa was the most common choice as I could see.
While the food quality is good, they claim to prepare food stuff in desi ghee, the purified oil which is the basic reason for high cost of eatables here, the restaurant cares the least to maintain a clean surrounding with better hygiene. I have seen people jostling to get their stuff and this is the one thing i dislike most.
Eating on Pavement: The corridor where you queue up to get your food gets congested. Maybe, the restaurant encroaches some space and bribes the civil authority who have never taken any action against them. Be careful while eating otherwise someone will unintentionally hit you and you will drop something on your clothes.
The restaurant serves very good kulfi in summers. But the servings are given on the pavement itself amidst wet and unclean surroundings. Be careful, again. I had two rounds of kulfi despite difficulty in eating on the pavement. Didn't feel like going up because service on table means give tip to the waiter which I hate, somehow.
Moti Mahal is basically short of space but intends to sell all kinds of food stuff leaving no scope to make high profits. Everything is done at the cost of customer comfort and the decency of serving food. The restaurant has utilised every bit of space to display or sell something or the other.
Paying Tip online: What comeslast!? Obviously the bill. When you decide to pay through your credit card the waiter isn't shy in asking to add his TIP. I flatly refused. Can't explain the expressions of the waiter!!

On our recent visit, we had the chance to indulge in a variety of dishes, including Chilli Paneer, Mushroom Chilli, Garlic Naan, and American Pizza.
The Chilli Paneer was a standout dish. The paneer cubes were perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauce had the right balance of spice and tang, with just enough heat to make it flavorful.
Mushroom Chilli was another treat for the taste buds. The mushrooms were tender and well-cooked, soaking up the bold, spicy sauce. The dish was a packed a punch with its combination of heat, garlic, and aromatic spices.
The Garlic Naan was soft and fluffy with a strong, fragrant garlic flavor. It paired perfectly with both the Chilli Paneer and Mushroom Chilli, making it an ideal accompaniment. It was freshly baked, and you could taste the buttery goodness in every bite.
The Pizza was a bit of a departure from the traditional offerings, but it did not disappoint. With a crisp crust and a generous amount of cheese, the pizza had a good mix of toppings and flavors. Though it wasn’t as unique as the other Indian dishes, it was a solid choice for those looking for something familiar.
Service & Ambiance: The service was friendly and prompt, with staff members eager to help with recommendations. The ambiance of Moti Mahal is warm and inviting, with elegant decor and comfortable seating. It’s a great place for both casual meals and...
