Disappointing fare for an old Lucknowite. Had visited in February for a take out meal twice. The food quality was inconsistent. Found that the customer service varies according to the owners whims. Had a take out meal today consisting of pasanda, kakori kebabs and mutton biriyani. Biriyani turned out to be chicken with 2 pathetic pieces of inedible wings and chest. Both the pasanda and kakoris were stored under refrigeration and stale. Reheated on the tawa before serving. Had to declibe the chutney and onions in view of risky hygiene.
A pale shadow of my younger days when the present owners father ran the place and treated customers with adab and innate lucknow hospitality. Sadly the present owners are both arrogant and unfriendly. My last visit to this hole in the wall joint.
Feeling sad at the decline in traditional Lucknow culture which seems to have succumbed to quest for money. My February experience suggests that Chowk eateries still retain the cuisine refinement at Nihari Kulcha place and at Tundes original joint. Unfortunately Raja thandai is a pale shadow of the past and the much hyped Idris Biriyani retains the fragrance of the old but the mutton pieces are mere bones with little to eat. Decay of Tehzeeb and nawabi Lucknow culture under the onslaught of...
Read moreSakhawat restaurant is a well known restaurant recognised as a Heritage restaurant in Lucknow, they claimed themselves a heritage restaurant. I went there with a lot of expectations after seeing so many videos on YouTube and blogs on social media platforms, but literally this place disappointed me a lot.
First of all it was opened late I went around 2 pm but the restaurant opened after 3 pm and the main dish which wanted to taste Kakori kebab was not ready. They told me to try their Friday only speciality Desi Chicken Biryani, for me it was not worth it. Very subtle taste with no flavours at all after that I tried their Shami Kebabs which were also just Okay okay type not good not bad. When I completed my meal they told me that Kakori kebabs are now ready so I tried that also and to my surprise that was the most disappointing dish of the day. There was no flavour and a very weird taste I don't know what the issue was but very tasteless preparation.
Lalla Biryani at chowk have much better Biryani and Shami kebabs then this Heritage restaurant. It was totally waste of money and...
Read moreSakhawat Restaurant truly lives up to its gold-medalist reputation! Ordered Shami Kababs with Rumali Roti, and I must say, the kababs were exceptional. They had a crispy texture, which is rare to find in Lucknow, and the balance of spices was just perfect—probably the best Shami Kababs I’ve had in the city.
However, the Rumali Roti was a letdown. Like many places in Lucknow, they don’t make it fresh; instead, they reheat it in the microwave, which takes away from the experience. In my case, they even forgot to warm it. So, if you’re ordering kababs, go for the paratha instead—a much safer bet.
Now, coming to the Biryani—absolutely on point! The rice was soft, aromatic, and flavorful, with perfectly tender mutton. Just keep an eye out for the elaichi, and you’re good to go!
Looking forward to trying their gravy dishes next time. Definitely a must-visit for authentic flavors, but a little attention to the details (like serving fresh Rumali Roti) would make the experience...
