Chotiwala Restaurant, located near Parmarth Ashram in Rishikesh, is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to enjoy traditional Indian cuisine in a vibrant, local setting. The restaurant is famous for its authentic vegetarian dishes and has been a staple in the area for decades, making it a must-visit for both tourists and locals. The ambiance of Chotiwala is welcoming, with a mix of rustic and cultural décor that adds to the charm of the place. The iconic "Chotiwala" (man with a small tuft of hair) statue at the entrance is hard to miss, making it a fun and memorable landmark. As for the food, it’s absolutely delicious! The menu offers a wide range of vegetarian options, including North Indian favorites like chole bhature, aloo paratha, and thali meals. The portions are generous, and the flavors are rich and comforting. The fresh juices and lassis are also a perfect way to cool off after a day of exploring.
Service is friendly and efficient, and the staff is always ready to help with suggestions from the menu. The restaurant's location near Parmarth Ashram makes it a convenient stop for those visiting the ashram or the nearby Ganga ghats.

Read moreThe only good thing is Ganga View and nothing else. The food is ok-ok just like any other restaurant. But, the staff attitude is really poor. My experience: I ordered my food. 5 minute later another waiter came and took my order. Then I waited approximately 30 minutes before complaining about not receiving simple order. That is when I found out they they didn't registered my order yet and I need to place the order again. I was really frustrated and wanted to leave the place but we had kids with us and didn't want to walk anymore hence we stayed and placed order again. Finally, after 1 hour I received my order and the curries were cold. Not even warm. Later, when I repeated the order for Chapatis it took another 10 minutes and till then the Curry was a mess. Now let's talk about the services here. Just 1 unisex toilet for a seating capacity of approx 80 people. So the toilet is always blocked. The W.C. is broken, dirty and might cause you infection. They don't serve hot water bowl so if you want to wash your hands then you will have to walk to the same basin that people are using after getting using...
Read moreChotiwala by the Ganges in Rishikesh is in a prime spot, right by the river, with an auto stand nearby, making it super convenient to get to. The view from the windows is amazing—you can see the Ganges flowing as you eat, which adds a really nice touch to the meal.
But honestly, the service was pretty disappointing. I sat there waiting for a while, and even though the staff saw me, they didn’t bother coming over until I called them at least five times. It was a bit of a letdown because I was really looking forward to the experience.
That said, the food more than made up for it. I ordered rumali roti and soya chaap masala, and it was absolutely delicious! The flavors were spot on—spicy with a good punch, just the way I like it. Despite the service, eating that fantastic food while enjoying the view of the Ganges was a real treat. If they could just improve the service, this place would be perfect. But for the food and the view alone, it’s still...
