We visited Thalapakatti Velachery for dinner, expecting a good experience based on our previous visits, but unfortunately, it turned out to be quite disappointing.

Food Ordered:

Paya

Nool Parotta

Mutton Chukka

Tandoori Chicken

Dosa

Kuchi Mutton (Nenju Elumbu preparation)

Experience:

We started off with Paya and Nool Parotta. While the parotta was fine, the Paya was just okay — nowhere near the quality we had enjoyed here a year ago. In fact, we came back based on that previous experience. Given the current pricing, the taste and quality of the Paya was underwhelming. For reference, Billa’s Paya is far better in both taste and pricing.

Mutton Chukka was also average at best — a bit dry and definitely overpriced for the quantity and flavor.

Tandoori Chicken was the only item that stood out and tasted good — tender and well-marinated.

However, things went downhill when we ordered Kuchi Mutton, a dish prepared from the nenju elumbu (rib bone) portion. What we received was clearly spoilt meat — the smell and taste were off, indicating it was either old or not stored hygienically.

When we raised the issue with the manager, he insisted the meat was fresh but “may have gone bad due to mishandling.” This was a very weak explanation and frankly not acceptable at a reputed restaurant. After a long and unpleasant back-and-forth, they eventually refunded the money for that item — but still didn’t give a satisfactory or responsible explanation.

To add to this, while we were speaking with the manager, another customer at a nearby table was also complaining about their biryani, but again, the staff dismissed their concern with the same “it’s good only” response.

Conclusion:

Overall, this was a bad food experience and a letdown from a place that once served great food. Spoiled meat being served is a serious health and hygiene issue, and how the management handled it was even more disappointing.

Pros:

Tandoori was good Location is convenient

Cons:

Paya quality has dropped significantly Mutton Chukka average and overpriced Kuchi Mutton served was spoiled Poor handling of complaints by staff/manager Questionable food safety and hygiene practices

I’m sharing this review not out of anger, but to create awareness. Customers deserve better quality, hygiene, and honest service for the price they pay.

Will I return? Not likely, unless there’s a drastic improvement in food quality and...

Daye 17 august 2022, went with family. One of the best dish i would recommend is pacha thanni ( Raw water) yes but remember if you order hot water it will take 30 minutes to reach your table.

Then Ordered Biryani , wheat parotta and soup.

Biryani was out of stock but they will not say it , instead they will give you wheat parotta first so they got covered for the bill then after minutes if we ask what about biryani , they say it is coming from other branch , wait for 5 minutes but actually dine in time we were there is 45mins + , we ate for 10 mins max , 35 minutes. We waited to that lazy customer service provided by the restaurant. If we complain it to billing manager . He will be like - I won't speak , he gives card reader and see his switched off monitor . Most important part is AC is not working . We just got sweated like hell due to poor customer service, Poor infra structure , tasteless soup and parotta and overall i wanted to rate 0 out of 5 but google not allowing it.

This is not a new experience, i had already had a bad experience with them few months back and stopped visiting this store. Request public to be cautious before stepping in , they will spoil your total mood.

Also the store is very less occupied 9 .15 pm but still response was like snai.so just thinking how they are in peak hrs . anyhow final goodbye to such...

During our recent visit to Velachery at 8 pm, our dining experience left much to be desired. We were taken aback when we discovered that the South Indian restaurant lacked basic items like white rice. This seemingly fundamental staple was unavailable, surprising us given the restaurant's regional focus. Undeterred, we opted for kaal dosas with a side of curry. Unfortunately, the dosas were a disappointment – over-fermented and sour, diminishing our dining satisfaction.

Despite these culinary setbacks, the redeeming factor of the evening was the chicken biryani, which managed to exceed our expectations. The staff demonstrated commendable service, and the ambiance of the restaurant added a positive note to our overall experience.

Nevertheless, the focal point of any dining establishment is undeniably the food, and in this aspect, improvements are essential. The absence of a basic item like white rice in the evening is perplexing and raises questions about the restaurant's preparedness and menu availability. While the staff's efficiency and the pleasing ambiance contributed positively, addressing the culinary shortcomings would undoubtedly enhance the overall appeal of the dining establishment. Our visit, marked by a mix of disappointments and highlights, underscores the potential for improvement in the core element – the quality...

What's good ? Amongst the dishes we tried Mutton Kola Urundai, Ceylon egg parotta, Chicken kothu parotta and chicken varuval masala I liked mutton kola Urundai and chicken kothu parotta. Taste justifies the price. Good ambience and surrounding of the hotel. Staff was well mannered and helpful. Hygienic and clean utensils. What's not good? This place seems congested and small. Very small combine area for refreshment which is awful. I ordered moru moru panner as starter and it came in the last over that all of my friends didn't feel like it's pure paneer considering its taste and texture. It wasn't pure for sure. This incident makes me doubtful over other dishes too. Hoping that they'll improve quality and authenticity of the food.

PROs - location , food taste , ambience CONs - service Good location . Right on velachery bypass road . Very nice locality . Close to lots of other shops and restaurants… went there after 8.30 pm .. parking is average ! Ambience is good . Lots of tables to sit and eat . Service could be better . We kept asking for chutneys etc and took a lot of time . Pricing wise it is ok. Not too high and not too cheap . Food was good . Kari dosai was really good . 👍 nice texture and spicy . Liked it .. it makes your stomach full … mutton biryani was average though. Meat was a bit dry and didn’t eat much . Kal dosai was good … and Kothu parota was good too. Overall , good taste and quality was good . 4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️
