SREE AKSHAYAM - HOTEL, SWEETS N BAKERS — Restaurant in Zone 13 Adyar

This is an honest review from a normal family eat-out perspective. Some of the items were very tasty, some were very moderate. Please find below my ratings for each dish we tasted out of 5: 1.Garlic naan (4.5/5) - Unlike other restaurants, we really liked the extra masala on garlic topped up on roti base, it was very yummy. 2.Veg fried rice (3/5) - some overpowering sauce/vinegar was added, didn't like much. 3.Gobi Manchurian Dosa (4.5/5) - Dosa filled with yummy gobi manchurian filling- tasted extremely yummy when tasted alone, didn't go well with chutneys or sambar that was served along with. 4.Pallipalayam parotta (4/5) - Paneer filling was nice, tastes good, served with raitha 5.Aapam with kadalai curry (4/5) - Tasted good, aapams were crispy, channa curry tastes usual 6.Charminar thattu idly (3/5) - Nothing so super except for the fancy name. Dry coarsely ground podi with ref chillis and garlic was topped up upon thattu idly, no oil or ghee was mixed with idly podi though - felt idly was very dry 7.Matar paneer (3/5) - Gravy was very thick in consistency and very sweeter than normal 8.Paneer tikka (3/5) - paneer was soft, green chutney tasted good but the paneer marinade needed further cooking - felt like it was still doughy. 9.chutneys and sambar - Good, but I'd bot say great - I have tasted better ones. Overall I'd say - ambience, food quality and taste were good, variety was also good when compared to other veg restaurants.. but some items tasted normal. Good place for family get together. If u r on a veg day when u cant have nonveg, if u wish to replace nonveg meal then u can definitely go here since variety in vegetarian is...

Please note this review is about the outdoor catering we ordered from Akshayam for 100 guests for my younger daughter 1st birthday.

This is purely based on our personal experience.

What I can appreciate;

1. Budget friendly package prices for catering.
2. Coordinator is very approachable on customising the menu per our needs
3. Time of Delivery of the food(little delay due to weekend traffic)
4. Offering complementaries like plate with banana leaf, water bottle and other utensils
5. Taste of the food and even guests have appreciated the food quality and taste

What I can’t tolerate

1. At the very last moment they communicate that one of the custom item from the menu is not been made and it can’t be delivered as well. Major problem is, the coordinator is convey this message to me at very last moment by that I really couldn’t order or do something abt it. At least it could’ve communicated me earlier I would definitely planned for alternatives coz menu was already very limited (Money refunded in the same day)
2. Order vs Consumed - we have ordered for 100 people and it just hardly less than 90 people could ate that it was very embarrassing for us after all. So if you order from them, do order more than you anticipate or else you’ll end up like us.
3. Ice cream was melted by the time it delivered to us, as it was like a vanilla milk rather than a ice cream
4. Veg Briyani is little salty than expected

Sree akshayam at Velachery is now one of my favorites. Once you enter the hotel with your car, the valet parking facility was a breeze and super efficient. Ground floor has sweets, savories, bread, cookies, cakes, bakery items, there is even a lounge to sit and sample. First floor is the restaurant area. Main USP: pure veg. They have close to 15-20 tables, which easily seat 4 or 6 people. The seats were comfortable, right height, AC cooling was good inspite of being packed. Waiters were fast to take the order and super fast to bring the order, however the cleaners were a tad too slow and seemed lethargic to listen and clear the table. Be there before 8 pm for dinner, else you may need to give your name and wait outside. Lift facility is also available. Restroom and wash area were clean. With close to 100 people on the restaurant floor it was very noisy. Their cookies and cakes were tasty, eggless options available too. Must try achari paneer tikka, poori masala. Phulka was soft. Chaat items were also available. Sadly the thali meals are lunch only, not for dinner.

I will always remember their food taste, fast service, budget pricing. We were 5 people, total bill was less than 2k. When I'm in Velachery next time I'll visit again hungry for more.. Hit helpful 👍 if you...
