On Sunday (17th Dec), Two of us were asked to leave by a waiter because we spent almost 2 hours at the restaurant! In my opinion, this is the rudest way a waiter can behave to an old timer of this restaurant. So , the incident goes like this,.. I took one of my non-Chennai friends to Palimar for breakfast on Sunday. Seated at a table in the outdoor cafe area, I was glad that I asked my friend to try the Masala Dosa and Vadai, because the Sambar Idly that I ordered for myself was cold as if the idly had been soaking for a couple of hours already. The coffee was not great either as the milk smelled a bit old. But I did not mind that as we were enjoying the beautiful ambience of Palimar. It is to be noted here that it was already a struggle to get the waiter take our orders. As my friend started liking the place, a waiter came from inside the building and told me that the manager has been watching us through the cctv and that we have been sitting here for almost 2 hours. And that they want us to leave immediately. I was surprised by the way he told me and then he kept staring at me as he left. Usually, waiters ask if we want anything more and then hand us the bill which is a polite way of asking a customer to leave. But this did not happen. To not cause anymore embarrassment to myself in this semi-occupied restaurant, I just asked for the bill. Then the waiter shows me his notebook to verify if that was my order as he had forgotten due to the long time lapsed. I then settled the bill along with a tip to the waiter and left. I could’ve called out to speak to the manager regarding this issue and the approach of the staff, but did not want to cause an embarrassment to myself while I was with a friend. Had I been with my family, I would’ve reacted differently as we are old timers at this place. Palimar has been one of my favorite places from Madras as I was also born in Egmore. My family and I have been visiting this restaurant for almost 25 years. I have introduced many youngsters and non-Chennai people to this place. There have been excellent staff in Palimar who take the extra step in serving customers, but never have I received such a service. I do not think I will return to Palimar unless something is done about this. It is disheartening that this is my first Google review on this place and it is not a good one. Hope things turn out...
Read moreService:- There is an issue with the service, since there are only two waiters for the entire a/c section, which has a seating capacity of almost 50+ Food :- Idli and sambhar are good enough. Chutneys are average.
But it appears like even the top most restaurants have lost their best Dosa master's, Palimar is no exception, Any Tom Dick and Harry doubles up as a Dosa master, particularly on a holiday. We Had ordered Small Butter Dosa, which was not palatable at all, it has to be soft/crispy means tender and crunchy inside out, where as it was too hard, more burnt and brittle, brown to blackish while breaking it as a morsel, it gets into small tiny powdery bits, moreover not baked on the sides, which had uncooked batter flour, And almost burnt 🔥 in the center, Plus three plain dosas that we ordered met the same fate as described above, Eating out is no more a luxury now, Our affluence doesn't make any difference, we are rather affluent Beggars, who not only pays for his food but also be at the mercy of waiters, are the people who are rulers inside the restaurants, who politely tell you to wait, And do you have an option, Even if you choose the best of the over hyped restaurants, the only person who is a victim is also you, leave alone the poor owners, who are victims by default, and by their choice. The only advantage here in Palimar is you wait endlessly for food to arrive, but at your Dining Table, whereas on holidays you find yourselves waiting outside the other over hyped restaurants endlessly, waiting for your turn to become a victim of poor service...
This review will only improve the writing prowess of the author but not the service, Rest Assured, SERVICE = RIP = OM SHANTI... Did I say Let's try yet another Restaurant, Suffering Guaranteed. Humsuffer=Suffering Together.
Good Luck.. & Good Food doesn't go...
Read moreI recently visited Palimar restaurant, and I was thoroughly impressed by their newly renovated dining area. The ambiance is warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a delightful meal.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the food. The snacks, particularly the bajji, were absolutely delicious – crispy, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. Their South Indian breakfast items were equally impressive. The dosa was crispy yet soft, the idlis were fluffy, and the accompanying chutneys and sambar were bursting with authentic flavors.
While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and the enhanced dining experience make it worth the cost. If you're looking for a place that combines great taste with a comfortable atmosphere, Palimar restaurant is an...
