There is a saying " Too many cooks (read as Dishes) spoil the Broth, One cannot Relax while eating since you are being bombarded with continuous supply of food, the moment one tries to relish a dish that was served, your table is being invaded by battalion of Stewards with a new dish, The chef/management appears to be confused 🤔 in selecting their offerings, particularly trying to give a variety mix of North & South cuisines, that lack in authenticity in most dishes, which were either bland in taste, or modified to suit NRI taste is what my guess.

The Rasam vadai - rasam was good, but the vadai wasn't fried to the appropriate crisp texture, the colour was rather pale brown than Golden Brown,

The Avial was Totally Bland, lacking in yoghurt gravy, most of us didn't relish it,

The Paneer dish was yellowish, which was like more kulambu-watery consistency, paneer being super soft.

Potato curry has to be always considered as a filler and not as a replacement to poriyal or any other side dish, Hence, if the chef wishes to add Potato curry to the menu, he needs to consider offering an additional Poriyal like Cabbage Carrot, or any other green veggie poriyal, Here again the Potato curry was too bland in taste.

Now. having given critical remarks, I must confess that dal makhani was good, mini kesar peda, gulab jamun & icecream 🍦 were good.

Vadams, manathakali vatthal, Lotus stem vatthal, 4 types of Pickles, the Ginger pickle was great, though a bit sweet in taste,

Once again, it appears that in Payasam, the chef might have used Saffron Extract, rather than saffron stigmas, one could experience a mouth feel mild after- taste of the chemicals used in Saffron extract, as a carrier. Had they used infusion of pure Kashmiri saffron stigmas, the Payasam colour, Flavour & Aroma would have been next level.

Tandoori Rotis were thin like a South Indian Chappathi & Kulcha wasn't up to the mark. The typical nice South Indian fluffy pooris were missing.

The servings included Pre mix Sambhar Sadam, ( we would have preferred traditional Sambhar that was missing & sadam Separate), Beans Ussili, white Rice, Rasam, Podi ( that was coarse & bland), coriander sevai, Tamarind rice, white Pulav, Curd Rice had cut mangoes, which amounts to Viparith Aahar, (opposite Food combination)

Overall, the chef wanted to impress the guests with numbers, ( variety of food), but the true authentic flavour. The aroma and taste were missing, that the Chef ought to have focused on.

Of course their intent is good, 👍, but if the same is reflected in the food, by making it authentic then it would be really Great. The ambience is par excellence & service is of course Good, but their challenge is to serve too many varieties in numbers.

I am sure, the hosts will take these critical remarks in the right earnest and improve upon making dining a better experience, I will come back for sure, And recommend to friends....

Annalakshmi Restaurant offers a unique dining experience, blending authentic Indian cuisine with a philanthropic mission. The restaurant is renowned for its vegetarian menu, rooted in traditional Indian culinary practices, with a variety of dishes representing the diverse flavors of the country.

Upon entering Annalakshmi, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The décor is simple yet elegant, with an emphasis on Indian cultural elements. The staff is friendly and hospitable, making you feel at home. One standout feature is that the restaurant often operates on a "pay what you feel" concept, allowing customers to donate what they think the meal is worth—a gesture that makes the dining experience feel more meaningful.

The menu features an array of Indian delicacies, including rich curries, soft dosas, aromatic biryanis, and freshly baked breads like naan and roti. The food is flavorful without being overly spicy, making it suitable for a wide range of palates. Annalakshmi also caters well to vegans and those with dietary restrictions, with clear labeling of dishes.

The standout dishes include the paneer tikka, masala dosa, and the various thalis (platter meals), which offer a complete meal experience with a variety of tastes and textures. The use of fresh ingredients and traditional spices ensures that each dish bursts with authentic flavors. The desserts, especially the gulab jamun and payasam, provide a sweet and satisfying end to the meal.

In terms of ambiance, it’s a peaceful place to enjoy a leisurely meal, often accompanied by soft Indian classical music. The restaurant is ideal for family gatherings, special occasions, or even a quiet meal alone.

Overall, Annalakshmi Restaurant offers not just great food but also a dining experience that nourishes both body and soul. The concept of giving back to the community while enjoying a high-quality meal sets it apart from other dining establishments. It's a must-visit for anyone who appreciates Indian cuisine and the philosophy of...

Some good restaurants serve food that fills the stomach. Some good restaurants serve food that tickles the palate. But, only a very, very rare restaurant's food will satisfy your soul, bring a semblance of peace to the restlessness that is the bane of our existence. Finally, I discovered that place- Annalakshmi. First things first. If you are planning a visit here, you need to book a table in advance. Atleast a week in advance. We were lucky to find a table without pre-booking, but it is advisable to book it in advance. Now, over to the ambience. The interiors are very classy, with huge chandeliers, colorful drapes. There is an idol of Goddess Annalakshmi at the entrance. We ordered - Jeera Rasam -Mysore bonda -Mixed veg in coconut curry -Okra vegetable (I dont remember the original Tamil name) -chapatti -Rice with podi and kuzhumbu -Bisibille bhaat -Gulab jamun Every item was delicious, with an explosion of flavours in every mouthful. The rasam was the right amount of spice and tangy. Mysore bondas were soft and mild. They were served with coconut chutney and sambhar. The vegetables were excellent, and every flavour came out distinctly. The rice was served plain, and the waiter poured hot ghee, podi and kuzhumbu on table. That was just out of this world. Those flavours were unknown to the palate, and will remain unforgettable. Bisibille bhaat was made in a way I have never tried. There were whole shallots inside, and a generous dollop of ghee on top. We finished the meal with a plate of gulab jamuns. A majority of menu is available without onion/garlic (Jain). After the meal, paan was served. Once again, excellent. To sum it up, the restaurant's tagline reads "Where vegetarian dining is a cultural experience". And they completely live up to it.

March 12, 2024 (Tuesday evening) -- My friend took me here, the place is richly decorated with traditional South Indian statues and artifacts, with well spaced table placements. The menu was broad and covered a lot of South Indian delicacies that one won't see in a typical Indian restaurant outside India, which are dominated by North Indian rotis/naans and gravies. So, this is the kind of restaurant you take your foreign friend/client to -- exotic, authentic, and pleasant. We had the following. 1. Navaratna dosai -- A normal ghee (clarified butter) dosai with dry fruits -- such as almond (badam), tooty-frooty, apple, pineapple, cashew, cherry -- inside the fold of the dosai. This was sweet and the `ghee'ness was super! The accompanying sambar and onion chutney were spicy to the right levels, the coconut-bengal gram chutney was very soft. I ate two cups of each of the three. 2. Roti and pudhina paratha -- were normal. 3. Methi Malai mutter and Paneer pasanda -- the gravies were soft (less spicy) and flavourful. We actually ordered the 'Methi makkai palak', but we were served (and billed) Methi malai mutter. 4. On the house vadaam (sort of a rice flour dough deep fry) at the beginning and sweet beeda (beetel leaf folded with sweet stuffing inside) were given. I was never a fan or regular eater of beeda, but I tried it that day. It was nice and juicy, the sweetness and leafness were well balanced. 5. The servers bring around 4 pickles now and then. I tried the puli inji (tamarind and ginger), and mango ginger. Both were very good. The prices are very high ~Rs. 1600 for two, but the quality of food , ambience, and service were very good.
