I recently had the pleasure of dining at Writer's Cafe in Egmore, and I must say that the experience was nothing short of delightful. From the ambiance to the exceptional food, this cafe exceeded my expectations in every way.
Let's start with the highlights of my dining experience. The English Breakfast Platter was simply outstanding. It featured all the classic components of a traditional English breakfast, including perfectly cooked bacon, sausages, eggs, grilled tomatoes, and toast. Each item was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. It was a hearty and satisfying way to start the day.
Another standout dish was the Lemon Sticky Chicken. The chicken was tender, succulent, and had a beautiful balance of flavors. The zesty lemon sauce added a refreshing tang to the dish, making it a delightful combination of sweet and savory.
The Chicken Pizza was another winner. The thin crust was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, providing the perfect base for the generous toppings of tender chicken, gooey cheese, and fresh vegetables. It was a flavorful and well-executed pizza that left me craving for more.
Now, let's talk about desserts. The Death by Chocolate Cake was a chocolate lover's dream come true. It was rich, decadent, and incredibly indulgent. Every bite was a blissful explosion of chocolate flavors, and the moist texture of the cake made it even more delightful.
Finally, the Danish Croissant deserves a special mention. It was flaky, buttery, and filled with a delicious almond paste. The combination of the crisp pastry and the sweet filling was heavenly. It was a perfect treat for a light snack or a quick pick-me-up.
Aside from the exceptional food, Writer's Cafe in Egmore also boasts a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The decor is reminiscent of a quaint European cafe, with bookshelves filled with literary classics and comfortable seating arrangements. It's an ideal place to relax, unwind, and enjoy a delicious meal while immersing yourself in a good book.
In conclusion, my dining experience at Writer's Cafe in Egmore was a memorable one. The English Breakfast Platter, Lemon Sticky Chicken, Chicken Pizza, Death by Chocolate Cake, and Danish Croissant were all outstanding in taste and presentation. The cafe itself exuded a charming and relaxing ambiance. If you're looking for a place to savor delectable food and enjoy a cozy atmosphere, Writer's Cafe should be at the top...
Read moreThis Egmore joint is a relatively new offspring of the Writer’s Cafe, Chennai. They specialize in hot oven products, small bites, desserts, cakes & artisan breads. I have a distinct memory that this group employed a lot of underprivileged people such as acid attack victims, people with hearing & speaking challenges, etc. Not sure if they still exist.
Drawing your attention back to the cafe - it wears a very classic & vibrant décor and is very welcoming. The host & the attendants are very warm & welcoming. They also have an in-house bookstore where you can lazy browse & shop too.
The food is good and above average and my feedback on some of the items I tried is as follows -
Pizzas & Pasta’s - Very Good Fries - Very soggy (not crispy) - Poor Pastries - Excellent Ice creams - Excellent Coffee - Good
Considering the portions, the pricing seems reasonable. The only let down is the filthy washroom and the place is very noisy.

Read moreWe heard so much about this place but were sadly dissatisfied and disappointed. First off, some of the AC’s were not working making the place a little uncomfortable. Then the waiters took our order, told them we had to move table to a much cooler space….. and guess what… they kept on giving our orders to the poor guy who sat on the previous table…. He was so confused… I had to step in and let him know that we were there before that is why the wrong order kept going to him. Did not get better. My food came first…. When it was done… husband’s food had still not come. Simple Masala mac and cheese…. Needless to say when it arrived it tasted like Maggie noodles…. It got worse….. our drinks came long after we ate and then my husband found a plastic cap in his drink…. Service was really slow even though we were not many customers. I am guessing the head waiter was the one who came over to apologise for the plastic and told us not to pay for the food ….. so we thought….. we decided to take dessert to go and we were willing to pay for that but guess what… they asked us to pay the previous bill…. Confused we asked the head waiter what was really happening…. He then did not charge for the dessert but charged a few items from the main meal….. already disappointed, we paid and walked out. I hope other customers have a better experience...
