Good Place to have Vegetarian meals.
It's a 38 Seater Dining Setup. They serve only lunch and Dinner. Only Vegetarian Meals . Not extra stuffs like variety rice or tiffin items. Only veg meals.
Usually very crowd. U can't directly go visit and have food.
U have to go pay and they ll be giving tokens (with seat numbers printed in it). White token and Yellow token.
Then u have to wait outside for them to call. 19 seats alloted for white token and 19 seats alloted for yellow token. So they ll be calling batch by batch.
If urs is yellow token and the previous batch had completed the food having it, person from hotel ll come outside and call u like, 'All yellow token guys , pls come inside.'
So this is the time when u have to go inside and sit in the seat number alloted to u as per the token.
They ll serve food un banyan leaf. And one bowl full of rice. This is limited. They ll serve appalam, kootu, poriyal.
For rice they ll give dal with ghee. Then sambar. Vathakulambu Rasam and curd.
Except rice every else they ll give u again and again when u ask. So no hesitations here.
Menu: Veg Meals :75 Ghee: 5 Extra Rice :15
NO PARCEL MEALS ALLOWED HERE OR BYPASSING THE QUEUE. YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR UR TURN.
Taste wise, its a normal vegetarian meals. Above average. Since it's a token system u ll be in a hurry to complete it as the next batch ll be waiting also the members of ur batch will be finishing soon and getting up.
U can't sit here , chit chat, relax and have food. All u have to do is hurry , have food and come.
But it's a traditional and very old mess which serves good food since ages. So people have a separate respect to this hotel and the owner. That makes it look different from others.
Definitely a Must Try...
Read moreA simple, sumptuous and wholesome vegetarian South Indian rice meal served on a banana leaf. It consists of a dry vegetable and a wet vegetable, thick sambar having plenty of vegetables in it, vathal kuzhambu, rasam, papad, pickle and thick butter milk. All for Rs 100 only. Though it is called a limited meal, the quantity of well cooked rice is more than adequate for an average eater. I went today (20/09/2023), a Wednesday. The standard menu for the day was Patato with onion and garlic, and avial. The vegetables keep changing every day to a fixed roster for a week. I took paruppu (dal) and ghee for Rs 10 extra and thick set curd for Rs 10 extra. You buy the token bearing the table number in advance and wait for your turn. Once the previous batch gets over, the tables are cleaned, leaves laid and then customers occupy a small separate marble topped table for each one and a stool to sit on. On the whole a very satisfying experience. Certainly this is not a fine dining place. But a fulfilling one indeed for someone who eats out every day. It is affordable for an average customer. If you generally take less rice, you can ask for a reduced quantity before you touch it so that it doesn't go to waste. On Amavasya day garlic and onion are not added. A takeaway parcel costs Rs 120 without curd, dal and ghee. They supply rolled banana leaf to go with the parcel. The place is located on the ground floor of a building on a narrow street at a short distance from Bells Road to the West of MA Chidambaram stadium at Chepauk. Has a seating capacity of 40 at a time. If you are around the place, and enjoy a rice meal for lunch, try this affordable must...
Read moreThis is situated almost at the end of Akbar Sahib Street. Only mess which provides meals (Rs.100) as lunch and dinner. Have taken their food several times. No other tiffin items or variety rices are served here till covid. Nowadays few dinner items are provided. Likewise post covid parcel meal is given. Two wheelers can be parked just opposite to the mess at a dedicated space. Will be crowded always. Will be given yellow/white token. Waiting time will be there. They will call out the color of the token. Upto 40 people can take meals. But for each color token, 20 people will be allowed. They offer limited meals. For Curd and dhal, we need to pay extra and get token for that (Rs.10 each). Table and stool set up. Plantain leaf will be provided. They serve in a systematic manner in a disciplined line. Like how they serve in a marriage hall. Poriyal and kootu will be given twice. Extra rice will be given on payment. They rotate the items daily. Their pineapple rasam is the standout one.
Many office goers and bachelor's will take lunch and dinner here. Food will not harm your stomach. It is adequate. Only cash is accepted.
It is not a place where you can take meals at a slow pace (though they don't show any urgency) because most of them eat food...
