We went to Pallavas for a family lunch to explore the food as this was overhyped by social media influencers. First disappointment even though we booked a table a day in advance we were provided a table in the first floor, My mother had difficulty in taking stairs due to her knee problem. I requested for table in the ground floor stating the reason but was refused saying it was full. We went at 12.45 and the hotel was pretty much empty at that time. Second disappointment was that very limited option for Vegetarians (my Mom and Wife are vegetarian) only one soup and one main course option for lunch while there was a good selection of vegetarian starter. Third most of the food which we ordered were all too spicy. First we went for crab soup (priced at INR299) which was very spicy for all of us, in fact my Father just took one sip and started hiccups and could not taste it further. The only soup option for vegetarian was madras mushroom soup which was also spicy. Then we ordered the following starters. Saiva Kola Urundai INR 289 - which had six pieces and tasted good. Mirapakaya malai paneer INR 319 - which tasted like very ordinary paneer tikka, nothing special. Kozhikode kozhi porichathu INR 339 - tasted good and bit different. Kongu Kola urundai INR 419 - was very ordinary and missed the mutton flavour, had more masala. Nattukottai Nalli roast INR 479 - Tasted good but again very spicy. Koondal Roast INR 419 - got carried away by the ingredients but again this was super spicy. While the squid was very good we could not bear the spicy masala. For main course we went with the briyani as only briyani and meals was the option. And for vegetarian only Mushroom Briyani was the option. Dindigul style mutton Briyani INR 490 - Tasted good and mutton pieces was soft and well cooked. Thalaserry Chemeen Briyani INR590 - This was the best food of all the items listed in my review. I am not sure if Thalaserry chemmeen Briyani tastes the same but i like this briyani and prawns tasted fresh and good. Since Vegetarians had only mushroom briyani option they ended up eating another 2 starters which is Tossed Tamarai Thandu INR 319 - This tasted good. Karaikudi Kalan Milagu INR299 nothing specific to menion. We finally ended up with Elaneer payasam inr 299 - again i had much better elaneer payasam in some very ordinary restaurants. The second desert was Kashi Halwa INR199 tasted very good. Only good thing is the service , Vinod who took care of us gave a...
Read moreThis was a treat from one of my best friends. He chose this place, and we had lunch here with his family. It's a decent place, though not very spacious, with seating on the first floor.
Our orders included crab soup and chicken soup. Both tasted good and spicy. I had a cold, so my nose and throat were burning, but we still appreciated the flavours.
For starters, we had mutton keema balls, which tasted very good with a blend of meat and masala. However, as I am not a fan of crushed meat, I didn't enjoy it as much. The Guntur Kodi Vepudu was excellent, quite spicy, but the chicken was tender, and the masala paired well with rice and biryani. The Vanjaram fish fry had fresh fish, but the masala wasn't very impressive. The piece was small and thinly cut, which didn't justify the price tag, making it an okayish dish. The Nattukottai Nalli Roast was a winner; the masala was delightful, and the meat was well-cooked. We had three pieces, and everyone enjoyed the dry gravy. I highly recommend this dish.
The prawn ghee roast was well-made, with more than six pieces. The masala and prawn were perfectly cooked. I only had one piece as there were many dishes to try. I totally recommend this dish for prawn lovers.
The Royal Thali included a combination of veg and non-veg dishes such as chicken curry, mutton dry, fish fry, keerai, beetroot, sambar, etc. It was worth the price. The payasam that came with the thali was mind-blowing, and we asked for it multiple times. Don't miss it.
The chicken biryani was not good as it lacked salt and flavour, but they took it back and replaced it with mutton biryani. The mutton biryani was decent, with well-cooked mutton pieces. Overall, it's a place worth visiting. With a Zomato offer, our total bill was over 5000 INR, with a discount of 900 INR. We paid the remaining amount after the Zomato offer.
I felt it's a decent place to have food together with family. There is only one hand wash area, which can only accommodate one person at a time, highlighting the space constraints of the restaurant. There were communication issues among the staff, but they did a great job overall. We were happy with our visit. It's not a cheap restaurant; the prices for main dishes range from 350 INR to 550 INR. Just keep that in mind. When you want authentic-style food with a blend of Kerala and Tamil Nadu flavours, you can...
