Funky Place Lovina — Restaurant in Bali

I would like to disclaim that the staff were very nice and apologetic about all the misunderstandings and mismanagements. They tried their best to rectify issues and we truly did appreciate that.

A big HOWEVER, there were so many issues that cropped up one after another that it became less of a small inconvenience to a major annoyance that made the trip rather bitter.

There were a few that were out of their control like the rats in the toilet bowl, weak/unpredictable water pressure, shortages in the electrical system and a cockroach in the room, buuuut there were many more that were IN their control that they messed up.

Firstly, the most crucial one was our booking. They double booked the rooms despite us paying for a NON REFUNDABLE Agoda deal for 6 people. The staff made us wait for a long time in the evening when we haven't had dinner and when they seemingly had things resolved, we were misled to believe that our rooms were upgraded but actually it turns out the best room was also booked and my friends were downgraded to a hut with no AC and a hazardous toilet situation with loose rocks for flooring. My partner even tripped and gashed his shin rather badly! Who was the interior designer who thought that was a good idea?!?

And other inconveniences that added up were involving our breakfasts which we requested to be earlier because we had a boat to catch for the dolphin watch experience. The night staff clearly did not communicate with the morning staff because the latter were confused and scrambled to get it ready. Not to mention the food was subpar.

A last one I'd mention is that they disrupted my friend's sleep with the intention to move her from her AC-less hut to a new room BUT the new room wasn't even ready. So she was awoken unnecessarily and had to wait in the lobby for no reason.

Lest to say, I do not recommend this place. Yes, it's charming. Yes, it's a stone's throw away from the beach. Yes, the staff were friendly in the grand scheme of things. But unless they make a major change to their system, staff training/communication and piping, I'd suggest you stay...

Our experience at Funky Place was horrible. First of all, the comfort of the room is really poor: everything is dirty, the toilet was not flushing, the sheets are stained and the beds are not comfortable. In the morning the breakfast room reeked of alcohol, nothing had been cleaned and the person who was supposed to serve us was still drunk and sleeping on a couch. But the worst was not there: as we left the hostel, we realized that my friend had had his scooter stolen and ours had been moved across the road. While we were trying to figure out where the missing scooter had gone, my friend crossed the dangerous road to get ours and had a serious accident because a scooter hit him. We were in front of Funky Place and we were given back the help we needed to call for help and take care of our friend. So we had to leave the scooter here because the ambulance took us back to Canggu and when I asked them to bring the scooter back to us even in exchange for money (because if it hadn't been moved in the night my friend wouldn't have had her accident) they refused. In the meantime, we learned that the missing scooter had been taken by a drunken customer during the night because a member of the hostel staff took him to the wrong scooter. We are really shocked by our experience there and we do not recommend this place in any way, the least helpful staff I have ever...
