I wanna tell you a Japanese restaurant named Nori, a hidden gem that's gonna blow your mind! First off, the vibes are immaculate. Open kitchen? Check! Watching the chefs work their magic live? Double check! Every table is styled to perfection, think Zen vibes meets chic minimalism. Basically, the perfect Insta-worthy backdrop for your food pics (don't worry, I got you ). Now, onto the good stuff: the food! Nori starts you off with a welcome snack that'll have your taste buds doing a happy dance. We then dove into the appies – Salmon Carpaccio so good it practically melts in your mouth, and a vibrant Tuna Ceviche drizzled with this insanely delicious lemon-buttered sauce. But the real stars of the show were the mains. OMG, the Robatayaki beef – cooked to perfection over open flames, smoky, tender, an absolute flavor explosion! It gave some serious competition to the insanely fresh Norway Salmon Fish, cooked so delicately it practically flaked apart with every bite. And let's not forget the cocktails! Nori's mixologists are seriously talented, crafting these amazing drinks that perfectly complimented every dish. The best part? The price! Nori is seriously affordable, making it a win-win for your taste buds and your wallet.

We came here to eat sushi, which was absolutely delicious, also the serving of edamame was quite outstanding. That was the only good thing about our restaurant experience. While we were ordering, we said to the waitress that potentially we would order more food later, which she was ok with. Later on we overheard from another table, they refused to take more food orders, because of the kitchen closure (it was 9.18pm). I called the waitress right after to check with her if we could have at least some dessert, not possible. I couldn’t believe, so I asked another waitress, she explained (at 9.29!) that they are not taking any orders after 9.30pm. Ridiculous. It just didn’t make sense. I wouldn’t mind if someone told us before, no problem, we would have adjusted. Very strange business approach. Especially, when it is quite expensive restaurant. We ordered as well the grilled shiitakes, but they were uneatable, we had to put them away to another table, because we couldn’t stand the smell, they took them off from the bill, which was ok. The design of the restaurant and presentation of the dishes are beautiful. Shame to destroy it with weird service or language barriers.

Nice restaurant not stellar but nice. The food was good but the beef had some chewy parts — not the same as what I’ve had in Japan… anyway the rolls were lovely and the sweet and sour chicken was tasty! We enjoyed our time here and I think it would be a nice place to hang out if not for the extreme heat which is not the restaurant’s fault but they could add some electric fans or something to cool down the area especially near the windows where the heat is a bit intense during lunch time. One of their staff was super on point and anticipated all our needs but the other staff was a bit slow to understand and communicate so maybe some extra training here would help — especially bussing out the plates before serving the next meal the table tended to get crowded… overall though we had a nice meal albeit overpriced.

Mixed experience here but overall I probably won’t come back.

The edamame appetizer was very good. It’s also very expensive, similar to pricing in Los Angeles.

The chicken oyster yakitori appetizer was also good, the trio of sauces brought with it mostly enjoyable.

My main, the Wagyu beef skewers were over cooked and had a terrible fishy taste, as though they’d been cooked in old fish oil .. I wasn’t a fan and $17USD for one skewer is obnoxious. (Incidentally, they shove two skewers through one thin piece of beef to make it seem like more, but it’s an obvious and disappointing cheat. So yeah, $17 for beef that was definitely not wagyu and not edible without being smothered in one of the spicy or sweet sauces, is crazy.

The most offensive part to me was when I ordered a virgin mojito mocktail. Mocktails are universally cheaper than their alcohol based counterparts.. especially everywhere in Bali. When the bill came, they charged me full price 120,000 rupiah.. $8.50 for a skinny glass so crammed with ice it barely held any liquid. When I questioned why the drink was the same price as an alcoholic beverage, the smiling server said “oh, because that’s what the manager said the price is.” When I pointed out that this is the only restaurant in Bali that I’ve ever been to that charges the same prices for non-alcoholic beverages as alcohol based ones, she just said “Well, I hope you give us a good review on Google.”

No.

Finally, the service was not good. Aside from the pricing issue with the mocktail, it’s one of the few places I’ve been in Bali where the smiles are not genuine and the service is unskilled and patronising.

$50 USD for a mediocre meal and poor service in an atmosphere that isn’t any more special than any of the other well designed restaurants in Ubud or Canggu.. not at all worth the expense or unpleasant experience.

This restaurant tries to be high end but can’t quite pull it off. They don’t understand the customer service required to provided a 5 star experience — this is a poor imitation.

My advice, spend the same amount of money over at The Four Season Gianyar — the food is exquisite, service exceptional, and nobody there is pretending to...
