We opted for the tasting menus - I chose the 6-course menu, while my husband indulged in the 9-course extravaganza. Both choices were a culinary journey that exceeded our expectations at every turn. Each course was meticulously crafted, showcasing the artistry and skill of the kitchen team. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was a work of art. It was evident that every dish was created with passion and a deep understanding of Japanese cuisine.

Review of Takumi: A Serene Japanese Retreat in Seminyak

Takumi is a tranquil Japanese restaurant nestled in the bustling heart of Seminyak, offering a much-needed escape from the lively surroundings. With three distinct dining concepts—Omakase, à la carte, and a whiskey and sake bar on the second level—Takumi caters to a variety of tastes and dining experiences.

I opted for the à la carte menu during my visit, and I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the food. The flavors were authentic and carefully crafted, with standout dishes that left a lasting impression. The steak beef and curry were particularly exceptional, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to high-quality ingredients and preparation. However, I found the chicken wing gyoza to be somewhat underwhelming and not quite as special as I had hoped.

One of the highlights of Takumi is its extensive sake collection, which is one of the best I’ve encountered. They even offer tasting courses on the house, allowing guests to explore various options and find their favorites. The cocktail menu is also commendable, providing a nice selection to complement the dining experience. The service is also very well trained and engaging in conversation that is not awkward, well done.

Given that Takumi just opened in 2022, it’s clear that they are making a strong impression in the culinary scene. I highly recommend making a reservation, as the serene atmosphere combined with quality food and drink makes it a sought-after spot. ABSOLUTE SHEER PERFECTION. Tucked away next to Ling Ling is Takumi, a beautifully presented and decorated Japanese classic restaurant. We ordered the 9 course menu, and were assisted by NOVI, a consummate professional, with a vast knowledge of the food and dishes being presented. The décor is stunning, intimate surroundings and the food was out of this world. NOVI took her time to describe each dish as she presented them, and the result was an absolutely magical evening. Of all the courses my favorite was the braised duck breast with mushrooms, in a broth that was absolutely phenomenal. If they sold this broth by the cup, I would be there every morning to replace my morning coffee. Light and flavorful, beautifully balanced, it was an absolute winner.

The menu was innovative, delicious and full or surprises. This was a dining experience that stood out as one of the best I have enjoyed in my 25 years living in Bali, and NOVI rates as one of the top wait staff I have had the pleasure to meet in the hundreds of meals we have eaten out all over Bali. The Polaroid photo taken at the end of the evening by the charming hostess from Munggu (sorry I have forgotten your name) was a fun addition which will be stuck on our fridge here at home high in the mountains of Bali.

I highly recommend this restaurant, the food, the décor, the staff, the ambiance, all second the none.

PS. Thank you for the mochi and cheesecake Happy Birthday plate and the end of our meal, I was not expecting that at all.
