The Butchers Club Steakhouse, Seminyak – A Disappointment on Every Level

As someone who seeks out memorable culinary experiences, this visit was, regrettably, one I wish I could forget.

I ordered the Steak Royale, which promised dry-aged excellence—but delivered none of it. The cut was wildly inconsistent: overcooked on one end, undercooked on the other, and only the center offered a glimpse of proper doneness. The fat was chewy, under-rendered, and the steak itself was utterly flavorless without the mushroom sauce, which thankfully added some depth. Without it, I genuinely couldn’t finish the dish.

Accompaniments didn’t help either: Mashed potatoes were bland, oddly cheesy, and lacked any seasoning. Fried onions were the unexpected hero—crispy and flavorful. Virgin mojito tasted like a sugar syrup explosion, drowned in ice. No balance, no refreshment.

But the worst part? Dogs roaming freely inside the restaurant. Not one or two in a designated area—I'm talking multiple dogs, some appearing to be strays, walking between tables. It felt unhygienic, chaotic, and incredibly uncomfortable. Nowhere on the restaurant’s site or signage does it mention being pet-friendly, and this lack of transparency turned what should have been a premium meal into a stomach-churning ordeal.

On a brighter note, the staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, doing their best to create a welcoming atmosphere despite everything else falling short. Their kindness deserves recognition.

With prices bordering on fine-dining, what I got felt more like a chaotic backyard BBQ gone wrong. I usually value constructive feedback, but in this case, my advice is...

Some good staff, but just one wrapped behind a tight mask so we couldn't see her face or properly hear her - you lose engagement, demeanour etc. She said she had 'flu and was trying not to spread it around'. Truly Darwinism in action....

We just dealt with the other staff instead, who were very friendly, smiling and engaging though

Cocktails were decent

I know it's a steak house and it's always best to stick with their signature dishes but we both just wanted fish that night

It was somewhat predictably over-cooked and dry

I know they should cook everything on the menu well, but I do blame myself a bit. Don't order fish in a steak restaurant!

Actually the French beans were beautifully cooked, as too the carrots and courgettes - crunchy, tasty and well seasoned. Very good

The steaks coming from the kitchen looked nice though and we will return to try them soon

Ok returned a few nights later to sample the meat

Service was good again as we avoided the hidden muffled anonymous masker this time

Rib eye was 'ok' but we wouldn't go back. Quite thin steaks but cooked well, as requested by each person - med rare or medium. Agsin, the vegetables were the stand out part of the meal

My husband and I dined at this restaurant on February 13. I find it perplexing how a restaurant charging Rp 720 000 (Rp 620 000 ++) for a piece of 250g steak could make such a glaring error. My order of Angus tenderloin arrived as two separate pieces underneath each other, with one being around 1cm thick steak, and the other a thin, overcooked piece measuring about 0.3cm thick. When I inquired about this, they simply referred to the second piece as an off-cut without offering any explanation as to why I received two pieces instead of one proper 250g steak. When I inquired why I received two pieces, the wait staff didn’t understand and took the thin charcoal piece to show the kitchen. They didn’t come back with the steak and just said, "Sorry. Next time we'll do better." I informed the restaurant staff that the steak should be served as one piece not two! They deducted 10% from the $62. The 10% deduction was irrelevant to me as I would have preferred a 250g one piece of steak. I didn't return the steak as I thought perhaps the staff would get in trouble as it was such a costly item and paid for it, although I was not happy. I will never go to this...

Ordered the meat platter. The meats were juicy and delicious most cuts being very tender. Needed more salt and pepper (which we asked for afterwards) and it made it 10/10 (please keep in mind I’m a Westerner so salty foods are a must. If you don't care much for salt then the dish is perfecr as is!) The truffle fries were crissssspy and delicious 🤍 My only recommendation is to skip the chimichuri and opt for the butter instead.The chimi was too vingerary. Side notes: 1. The meat was served luke warm not hot so if you care about that then take note. 2. The butter was not melted enough. 3. I took medium cooking for the meat (great!). 4. The cheese cake was a bit frozen but still good (but very sweet). Thank you to the chef and the staff for good service and good food!! I would come back again 🤍✨
