Really pretty restaurant with homey vibes, unfortunately the service and quality of food didn’t meet expectations.
I was excited for my visit since I heard only good things about this restaurant so it was quite disappointing when what we experienced fell short of our expectations.
I ordered ahead because people in the reviews mentioned that certain popular dishes sell out quickly, but wasn’t expecting food to be sitting waiting for us prior to our arrival. The food came out cold. The opor dish especially didn’t have any notable flavor note and ended up being very bland especially for the rice.
The satay maranggi was good, but would have been better if served hot. When cold it gets more chewy and probably don’t do the dish any justice. All in all, the sambal we ordered helped balance out the flavors and gave them the much needed kick.
I did. like the udang saos telur asin as the pieces were quite thick. Too bad they too, came out cold. Another tasty dish (not pictured) was the buncis bakar. It was crunchy and tasted really well paired with the pesto sauce.
The biggest disappointment however would have been the es cendol. For someone that likes the taste of palm sugar along with coconut milk, the es cendol delivered neither. The coconut milk was too watery and instead of palm sugar it had just caramel flavored syrup which to me didn’t pair as well.
Service was also slightly lacking. When we ordered water, they only brought out one Glas despite us obviously coming as a couple.
All in all, the food was good. Probably just not as exceptional as I have expected after having read the reviews. The idea that every dish was to honor a particular Indonesian cuisine is impressive, I just felt like they didn’t honor the richness of spice notes represented, plus our orders...
Read morei've never been the type to complain on official socials but here we are.
my partner & i made reservation at dailah a week prior. we were super excited & have decided on what we wanted to order: the gurita one, pecak ikan, & klappertart. we drove all the way from on a saturday with so much anticipation.
we sat down, ordered, and to our surprise both menus were sold out — gurita & pecak. i figured it might be because we came in late (we arrived at 8.20 PM due to the toll & bandung weekend traffic). But was it too hard to inform us beforehand? i mean thats why we made rsvp? especially when i had been texting the WA admin back & forth to make sure we still have the table. not gonna lie we were extremely disappointed & lost our appetite right there & then.
we decided to stay just because we believe reservation is a commitment & we didnt want to bail out.
was the food we ate good? meh. we ordered the smoked duck & labu siam thing and both were super salty. only the nasi bire was pleasant to eat. read some of the reviews about the same thing so i guess its a pattern? also the klappertart didnt taste like klappertart. i get that they are trying to innovate and stuffs but idk maybe call it a different thing if you're not gonna give us whats its called on the menu? (Seroja Bake does great about this, perhaps learn from them)
did we enjoy it? no at all. the whole experience was such a bummer & we felt like we drove for hours for nothing. def not coming back either.
also, this was insignificant for us but should matter to dailah since they brand the place as high end indo food: our beverages came at different time. my partner's had coaster, mine did not. whats up with the service...
Read moreOh where do I even begin? I can wax lyrical about Dailah all day long.
If you’re looking for elevated Indonesian dining, Dailah’s the place to go. Everything was phenomenal — I don’t think words alone are enough to encapsulate the amazing gastronomic experience we had. It was the first restaurant we visited during our trip and it raised the bar so high that nothing else quite measured up afterwards.
Do ask the staff for recommendations because everything was spot on. My personal favourites: nasi bire, sate maranggi, siongsira, tumis kepiting and es pisang ijo.
Our kepiting dishes were served late so the staff served us a complimentary es pisang ijo as a form of apology. I wasn’t expecting much from the dessert but you should definitely not leave Dailah without trying it. Generous in portion and incredibly flavorful, it’s a must-try when you visit.
To top it off, the staff went above and beyond by celebrating my parents-in-law’s wedding anniversary with a surprise cake and even a song performance with the angklung. The effort and attention to detail were heartwarming.
I’ve been recommending Dailah to all my friends who plan to visit Bandung — it’s the kind of place you don’t...
