Revisiting this Epi(c) place after 2 years, I can’t help but wonder if its relocation has altered its Feng shui and its infamous crab experience.
bandung mountain hot spring mixing with papua fresh ocean water has once again elevated the crab taste profile to cloud 9 high.
We were there to feed our stomach , but in the end epi fed our souls.
First visit - 2022 Kepiting Chef Epi - One of the best seafood meals I have ever had in life.

We ordered and got overwhelmed (joyfully) the signature butter crab , steamed crab with butter sauce. The freshness and sweetness of crab complimented by the garlic butter flavour. Reminding me of the Taiwan off the west coast Penghu crab I had years ago.
It was so good to the point we had to order another one , this time the pepper crab. Strong onion and pepper flavour and the male crab tender meat texture was simply too good to be true.

Read moreThere are few restaurant that serve fresh seafood, I really like how they keep the freshness of their ingredient. (The owner of the restaurant even double check every dish before sent to customer) I order spicy butter crab, the sauce is perfect fit to eat with their fried mantau (they recommend to eat crab with mantau not rice, but they have rice too don't worry) The meat is easily broken out of the shell, so fresh!!!
For crab, 1 kg (2 pcs) is IDR 500k, but you can order just 1 pcs so you can try different sauce. I definitely want to try their cheese sauce crab for the next visit.

Read moreIt's true, butter crab and black pepper crab here are the most delicious crab cuisine we found, due their stock of live crab was soaked in Bandung cool water so crab meat kept tender when cooked. Enjoy this crab with fried mantou or mantle (Chinese steamedbun) as done by people from East Kalimantan region. Price of crab around Rp 500.000 - Rp 550.000++ for each kg, this include cooking fee, and each crab weithed around 500-600 gsm. Mantou of 4 pcs Rp 27.000++ could be fried or steamed. Then you could order shimeji tofu Rp 57.000++. Price for crab quite expensive, but meat quality and cooking could balance the price.
