28/01/2025 Updated - “The restaurant is closed.”
On the evening of November 3rd, my friend and I visited a Chinese restaurant named "Jia Xiang Wei Restaurant" or “家乡味煮炒” on Batam Island. The time was around 5:30 pm, Indonesian time, and the restaurant was relatively quiet with few diners present. We settled down and ordered a serving of Mei Cai Kou Rou, a dish of Kangkung Belacan, and two single-serving portions of shark fin soup, which were on a 50% discount promotion.
Initially, we braced ourselves for an average culinary experience. However, the meal turned out to be surprisingly good. The Mei Cai Kou Rou featured layers of pork that were cut to just the right thickness, not too salty or greasy, with a rich Mei Cai aroma that was especially delightful when paired with steamed rice. The Kangkung Belacan was not very spicy and had an ordinary taste, but the standout was the single-serving shark fin soup. Despite the ongoing promotion, it didn’t skimp on ingredients; it was rich in aroma and had a delicious taste, making it a must-try.
In conclusion, "Jia Xiang Wei Restaurant" or “家乡味煮炒” exceeded our expectations. The dining experience not only gave us a new appreciation for the restaurant's offerings but also proved that the essence of a good meal lies not in the lavishness of the surroundings but in the quality and taste of the food itself. For those looking for a satisfying dinner on Batam Island, "Jia Xiang Wei Restaurant" or “家乡味煮炒” is undoubtedly a...
Read moreWant to bring family for a nice zichar in batam but want to avoid the popular (maybe commercialised places)? Jia Xiang Wei will be the one! Situated quite near Wey2, it was a chance finding through google reviews. We came as a family of 11 at around 630pm on a Friday night, was surprised to find no diners in the restaurant (yet). Which was good as we were then ushered in a private room with spacious table and washing facilities. The food was very good, and both the young and old were delighted by the selections. Special mention to the fish, it was very fresh and everyone loved it. Didn’t manage to take all the photos though, but trust me, the food got wiped out pretty quickly. Price was pretty reasonable too, total came up to IDR 1.4m for around 8 dishes (including the fish), so it was...
Read moreCame with a friend (total 2pax) and ordered 3 dishes (we already had breakfast). We reached at 11:30am on 29th March (Friday) and the restaurant was still quite empty luckily.
Ordered belacan fried rice, butter prawns and dongpo pork. Belacan fried rice was good, very fragrant. Butter prawns tastes quite nice, except the prawns are a little "soft", may not be the freshest I've tasted. Dongpo pork was good, a tiny bit too salty for me, but I think definitely great with white rice. We also ordered a glass of fruit juice each. The total came to around 350k IDR.
Would recommend coming here as the food tastes quite nice, and food was served rather quickly. Maybe because...
