If one wants to do breakfast like a local in Batam, just head to the nearest Morning Bakery outlet. The one near the Harbor Bay ferry terminal is usually packed during breakfast, either from tourists staying nearby or locals stopping by en route to the work (usually those working in the industrial park north of the vicinity).
The diversity of the bread usually is the same as normal stuff in Singapore, with some twists. Most notably, the large triangular-shaped floss bread with some sweet toppings (!) like dried fruit, raisins, or sweetened kidney beans. The breads are typically slightly more expensive than similar product sold in neighborhood bakeries in the island. The breads taste okay although neither are exceptional. They do large discount of the breads nearing the end of operating hours.
This particular outlet is entirely semi-outdoor with a second floor, although the view from there leaves a lot to be desired. Pretty nice vibes though. At times part of the first floor suffers from fly infestation - hope they can mitigate this problem.
In spite of the name, it also boasts menus other than breads and cakes like noodles or rice dishes. So yeah not really Morning, and not really...
Read morevisited here for the first time when we went to Batam. we visited during morning and it was super packed. there was no table available so we had to wait and then shared table with some locals. luckily they were kind enough to do that.
there were wide selection of main menu and breads. we tried their mi ayam, nasi goreng, nasi lemak rendang and lontong. everything were good. the lontong is unique and quite different from the one in Malaysia and Singapore. Unfortunately we waited so long for the nasi goreng. We almost done with everything but the NG sti not coming and i remember the kid almost throw tantrums hahaha
almost everyone smoking at their table so if you’re not comfortable with that and bringing kids, just be aware of it.
staffs were super fast and dedicated. wish for better queuing system. overall,...
Read moreAlways chaotic service during meal time. We ordered mie Ayam that never showed up after 40 minutes despite our repetitive remainders, we gave up and left. Waitresses look very tired and exhausted, they often don't respond to your call and just keep walking. Tables look dirty and disgusting and they don't get cleaned immediately after use. I would squarely put the blame on the lack of proper supervision by the management. People are running around like headless chickens and orders don't get executed well. Time to change the shop manager. It's a pity because they manage to come up with some delicious items on the menu not existing in other branches of morning bakery such as Spaghetti...
