Altitude Rooftop Bar and Lounge — Restaurant in Batam City

I recently visited Marriott’s rooftop bar, expecting a premium experience worthy of the brand’s reputation and what I received was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had, made worse by the fact that I paid a premium price for it.

Yes, the ambience was beautiful, and the view was stunning. The waiting staff were friendly and enthusiastic, and the live band even went the extra mile to play my mother’s song request, which briefly brightened her night. But everything else — the food, the drinks, and the overall experience — was an outright letdown.

Drinks: The promotional cocktail was a complete failure: the first one tasted like watered-down coconut water, and the lychee pandan cocktail was inexplicably bitter. The wine selection was embarrassingly limited, with almost every grape variety we wanted out of stock. The glass of wine I eventually received was flat, and the white wine bottle clearly had not been properly corked , a telltale sign it had been open for at least a day. At a hotel charging premium prices, this is unacceptable. The only drink that was remotely passable was the sangria and that should not be the highlight of a supposedly high-end bar.

Food: The food was where the night truly collapsed. The calamari was rubbery and over-coated in batter, with sides that arrived early only to grow cold before the main course. The Japanese striploin was competently cooked, but that was the lone bright spot. The lobster thermidor was nothing short of disastrous: from the first whiff, there was a strong fishy, ammonia-like odor that no amount of cheese could mask. What shocked me most was finding small chunks of shrimp even a whole shrimp stuffed into the dish. Am I paying for lobster thermidor or a seafood casserole? The lobster meat itself was mushy, broken up, and clearly of poor quality.

We left the restaurant earlier than planned, abandoning our intention to stay for more drinks and music. The experience was so disappointing that it ruined what should have been an enjoyable evening.

For a globally renowned name like Marriott, this was a complete failure of standards. I expected quality, care, and proper curation of food and drinks. Instead, I was served what felt like careless, banquet-style dishes at luxury prices. This is unacceptable, and frankly, insulting for a brand that prides itself on premium...

Altitude is a getaway within the busy city life, after work, Altitude offers a long large decking rooftop bar, with amazing views and scenery, perfect sundown area, for that G&T with lemon slice, and ice, if you get my meaning for an early start to the evening or weekends, As night falls, the stars the breeze and the people appear, and the music starts off low key and is turned up as the night progresses with more drinks and foods and more people arriving, that are served by the very well trained and polite friendly staff at hand, if your a cocktail person, this is the place to be, we have a qualified Manageress, who has trained the staff to offer the best tasting cocktails in Batam, and I can vouch for that, the menu has been updated, and is really a nice change from an original menu, leaving you many choices of a different taste, for your palette

Usually the DJ and sax player have caught the attention of the customers and good sounds are vibrated through people, who are enjoying winding down after a busy week from work, and friends gather and people get to know each other as new friends

The circular Bar area is the sociable, get to know each other area, and is popular at the weekends, the sunken seated areas and tabled areas are usually taken for groups or meetings, being served meals and drinks, making it an ambient enjoyable feeling for all

No other Hotel offers the same in Batam, its unique, its 5 star treatment, you are taken care of from arrival to departure to the lift

The entertainment is a new concept offered to the customers with a DJ Sax player and bongo giving nice vibes an sounds, with guest DJ's from Jakarta, and IM sure soon from may other areas now COVID restrictions have been lifted

Many Singaporeans and residents living in Singapore often escape to Batam for a break from the high costs of living in the world's most expensive city. Batam's prices are roughly a third of Singapore's, however, compared to JB and Bintan, Batam appears less developed. While some cafes are decent, most restaurants, though enjoyable in terms of food and price, don't quite match the standards found in Singapore, Bintan, or even JB.

However, there's one place in Batam that stands out, offering a Singapore-like experience. It boasts a great atmosphere, good food, and, unsurprisingly, higher prices, almost on par with Singapore's. This rooftop bar features a stunning view, attentive and friendly staff, and decent food. The cocktails seem to be a better choice than the draft beer. The menu lists only one local draft beer, but you can also order Heineken draft at the same price. In my opinion, Heineken was the superior choice, as the local beer seemed flat and lacked carbonation.
