Our first meal upon arriving in Batam this trip. This place is actually located very near the ferry terminal and is within a hotel.
We like the deecor of the place, and it's spacious, with indoor and outdoor seating. However, as it was a warm afternoon, the sun really heated up the interior, and when we asked if the staff could lower the air-con temperature, we got a no as an answer. The thermostat actually said it as 27 degrees inside.
We ordered Eggs Benny, Mushroom Truffle Burger, Mushroom Cream Soup, Seafood Chowder, Wagyu Striploin Risotto, Spaghetti Carbonara, Pocky Crunchy Coffee, Supervision, and Olive Big Breakfast.
The Eggs Benny was way overcooked, so the eggs were more like fully boiled - the yolks were already completely hardened.
The Mushroom Truffle Burger was quite good. The patty used had an added texture to it, almost like it's an impossible patty, or maybe it is. It was served with a nice serving of potatop chips, which was really nice. Unfortunately, we asked if we could buy the chips as a side but were turned down.
The Mushroom Cream Soup was normal, but the Seafood Chowder was quite nice. It was very Chinese-style instead of the creamy western kind. It even had a few clams and prawns in the soup, shell, and all.
The Wagyu Striploin Risotto was probably the nicest. The meat was decent, and the risotto was well cooked.
The Spaghetti Carbonara and Big Breakfast were just so-so. Keep in mind that the bacon used is beef bacon, so it wasn't as crispy...
Read moreBeen here 4 times. Okay for eating alone, but horrible when eating as a group of 2+ people even on a quiet day. Price is on high-end range, but service is no different than food stalls (kopitiam). Dishes never come at the same time so when you eat with other person(s) in one table, one will have to eat first or wait. When asked, the excuse is that each dish is cooked by different person so they don't finish at the same time - which I think should make it easier to get multiple dishes for the same table out together as long as they communicate. Moreover, they leave dirty dishes on the table unless you ask the staff to remove them.
Menu is huge for a small place, makes me question the freshness of ingredients, so be sure to ask for popular items as it is more likely to be fresher than slow moving ones.
Music is loud so it's impossible to do a lunch meeting here, when asked to lower the volume they only tune it down ever so slightly as it is for their "ambience".
Overall I think the place is...
Read moreI find this place small. Have to access through Harris Hotel's Cafe unless directly via One Residence. Food wise, not too bad but nothing over the top. I didn't appreciate the service rendered by the male mgr or supervisor. Literally rushing through our orders though we were the only ones at that moment. Order 2 different mains to have him return to me smiling and having the nerve to tell me it wasn't my lucky day! What the.... Definitely not funny and no way does it evoke laughter. Only goes to show poor coordination between kitchen and F.O.H. for an establishment like this and charging the price, this kind of service is not acceptable to me even more so when I came all the way from SG just to try this restaurant all my friends in Batam were telling me. IMO, outdoor seatings doesn't make any sense. Overly rated and unfortunately I won't be returning to...
