As a Yogyakarta local who enjoys exploring the culinary scene around the area, I recently had the pleasure of experiencing breakfast at Patio Colonial Borobudur, part of the well-regarded Plataran Resorts and Spa. While we didn't have a stay booked at the resort itself, we were fortunate enough to secure a breakfast reservation – a big thank you to Mbak Putri from the nearby Menoreh restaurant (which was fully booked) for her kind assistance in making that happen!
The first thing that strikes you about Patio Colonial is the view – it's truly excellent. From our vantage point, we could see the majestic top of Borobudur Temple peeking out amidst a lush carpet of greenery. It made for a really serene and special setting to start the day. To access the venue, guests must use stairs, which can be challenging for some, especially those with mobility-related needs. I did notice that the place was undergoing some renovations during our visit, so it might not have been in its absolute prime aesthetically, but this certainly didn't detract from our overall enjoyment. Hopefully, the current renovations will include improvements to accessibility, such as a wheelchair-friendly ramp.
The breakfast itself was perfectly acceptable, and the presentation of the dishes was nice. While it wasn't the most memorable meal I've had tastewise, it was certainly satisfying and in line with the standards of other Plataran places I’ve been to in Jakarta and Bali. A definite highlight was the Turkish coffee, prepared with actual hot sands by Pak Awang; it was exceptionally good and a unique touch to the experience. I also especially liked the Gado-gado presentation, plated in a poetically pleasing crescent-shaped arrangement, highlighting each and every single element of the dish.
However, what truly stood out during our visit was the exceptional hospitality. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Pak Ari Adianto, Pak Wisnu, and Pak Awang. Their warmth and helpfulness were truly remarkable from the moment we arrived until we left. Despite being local residents and not staying guests, they made us feel incredibly welcome and valued. It's that kind of genuine hospitality that leaves a lasting positive impression, and we definitely left Patio Colonial Borobudur with a smile, all thanks to their wonderful staff! It's always a pleasure to experience such genuine Indonesian hospitality, especially so...

Me my mother and grandmother got sick the night after dinner. Im not sure which ones arent fresh but I assume its the king prawns that nearly dropped is. Its a shame the view and atmosphere is really great. But the food poisoned us and service is...

We have been staying here so had breakfast and dinner. A mix of good local and international food - my son was particularly happy to have a good steak. The breakfast is very pretty and it’s a treat to have a change from the...
