I love Malaika’s with my whole heart. My husband and I were lucky to have found it on our first day in Bali. I have some dietary restrictions, which can make traveling a challenge and Malaika’s was a saving grace. Not only do they prepare beautiful, vibrant food but it is just SO GOOD. Every single meal was impressive and, for the quality, very reasonably priced.
It’s not just that their deserts are some of the best vegan desserts we’ve ever had but some of the best desserts we’ve ever had period— despite being GF, vegan, and sugar free. Same went for their bread, fish, curries, etc. Everything we ate there was outrageously and unbelievably good. So, we went back again and again. As we got to know the staff and owner, we came to understand just how much love and intention goes into the food. Malaika is both a medicine woman and an artist and each of her recipies nourishes you on multiple levels. Feeling inspired, we decided to arrange a cooking class with them and had a total blast. We can’t wait to get home to our kitchen so we can start to play with their recipes.
Malaika’s has earned its place as one of our very favorite restaurants ever— and we come from what is widely considered the health food capital of the United States. Nonetheless, this restaurant has distinguished itself.
We did our best to explore other restaurants in Sanur, but everything came up short. Who comes to Bali to eat mediocre tourist pizza on the boardwalk, anyway? Save yourself the trouble and go enjoy divine food made my Malaika and her wonderful...
Read moreOn an island know for its culinary excellence, Malaika’s is a stand out favorite. We discovered Malaika’s early in our trip, and it became one of the highlights of our holiday. From driving our scooter all the way from Ubud for a slice of their vegan Blueberry Cheesecake, to coming back often for the Grilled Seafood, it’s almost worth flying back to Bali just for another meal.
I’ve been fortunate to eat delicious food at many amazing restaurants, but simply put, Malaika’s is different. The ingredients they use, the flavors they create, and the pure love and attention that is put into every dish make this restaurant something totally unique. Every meal we ate there is one I’ll remember long after I’ve left Bali. In the very best way, it made me a food fanatic. I don’t think I’ve ever laid awake with jet lag thinking about what new food I was excited to try the next day, or googling if i could bring a loaf of their amazing gluten free bread through customs when I flew home.
We loved the food at Malaika’s so much we decided to take one of their cooking classes. It was fun, well organized, and probably the best money I spent on the whole trip. Now, instead of being sad to leave the beauty of Bali, I’m just excited to get to make Malaika’s food in my...
Read moreUtter disappointment! We ordered Kashmir tikka and kadai paneer with tandoori naan and for drinks we chose liquid iron and electrolyte. First of all, we recieved the food before the drinks and the portions were ridiculously small!!!! We were still hungry after finishing the food! And we didnt recieve the drinks until 5 min AFTER we finished the food!
When we asked the waitress about the drinks she answered "Wait". At that point we were still Ok with everything and we were considering to order dessert and asked for the menu and recieved another "Wait" from the waitress!! The staff were unorganized and we didnt like the way she responded at all! It seems they had a shortage of menues because 2 seconds after we asked for one another waiter took the menu from one of the other guests....
And when we finally received the drinks.... they were completely DISGUSTING. Made our stomachs turn. The combination of ingredients were not balanced at all! We couldnt finish them!
We asked for the check at that point and Waited 10 min until we had enough! And it wasnt crowded! We went to the cashdesk and paid directly and left!
The worst is that we dont feel good after this meal! Our stomachs...
