In a serene corner that seems to be Bali's best-kept secret, I stumbled upon this quaint little warung that promises not just a meal, but an experience that's bound to linger in your memory. It's not just a spot, but a sanctuary where culinary delights meet natural bliss, gifting diners with moments that are nothing short of poetic.
As I nestled into this vibrant nook, what struck me most was the sheer freshness that seemed to permeate every aspect of the dining experience. It wasn't just present in the cuisine, but in the air, the surroundings, and the vibrant energy that flowed seamlessly throughout this charming locale.
In no time, I was presented with a spread that could only be described as a 'big breakfast'. A lavish ensemble of morning favorites, where each ingredient told a story of freshness and authenticity. But the star of this gastronomic show was undoubtedly the banana pancake. A dish that managed to encapsulate the essence of tropical bliss in every bite, presenting a harmonious blend of taste and texture that seemed to dance gracefully on the palate, echoing the tranquility and beauty of its surroundings. It was not just a recommendation, but a must-try for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the culinary treasures that this place had to offer.
But what truly elevated this breakfast into a sublime experience was the view that accompanied it. A picturesque frame of nature's artwork that changed hues with every passing moment, offering a visual treat that complemented the culinary journey splendidly. It was a serene vista that invited you to lose yourself in its vastness, a perfect accompaniment to a meal that promised pure satisfaction.
To say that this dining experience offered great value would be an understatement. It was a celebration of the finer things in life, a moment of pure bliss that beckoned you to give in to the joys that it promised. And as I sat there, taking in the picturesque surroundings and the culinary delights, it seemed almost impossible not to award this heavenly retreat a resounding 5 stars. It wasn't just a meal, but a beautiful beginning to a day that promised endless...
Read moreA Truly Disappointing Experience at Retro on the Beach – Thanks to Manager Jack
I wish I could give zero stars to Retro on the Beach, solely because of the disgraceful behavior of the so-called "manager," Jack. It was clear from the moment we arrived that he plays favorites, treating certain guests like royalty while completely ignoring others. If you're not a "regular" or someone he deems worthy, prepare to be treated like an afterthought.
While we sat there waiting for service, watching him personally attend to select tables with over-the-top enthusiasm, our requests were barely acknowledged. When we finally got his attention (after waving him down like we were stranded at sea), his attitude was downright rude. Instead of a polite response, we got curt, dismissive replies, eye rolls, and an overall condescending tone, as if we were bothering him by simply existing. When we asked about a missing item from our order, he practically scoffed and walked away mid-sentence, only to return after an unnecessary delay, acting as if we were lucky to even be served.
And if that wasn’t enough, Jack took his rudeness to a whole new level when he abruptly stopped us from playing on the beach—for absolutely no reason. Without any warning, he marched over and snapped at us to stop, acting as if we were breaking some sacred law of the universe. Meanwhile, other guests (the ones he clearly favored) were free to do whatever they pleased. His double standards and outright hostility were beyond unprofessional.
Jack’s behavior is completely unacceptable for someone in a managerial position. If this is the standard at Retro on the Beach, then they can keep it. Plenty of other restaurants actually appreciate all their customers, not just a select few. Avoid this place unless you enjoy being treated like an...
Read moreThis is beachside restaurant in the Cemara Beach area of Sanur. They have a large outdoor seating area and offer a fairly wide menu of Indonesian and seafood dishes.
We had two dinners here, very much enjoying their grilled fish on both occasions. Service was friendly and as timely as is reasonable for popular and busy restaurants. Environs on the beach really nice.
During our meals, we had grilled Mahi Mahi X 2, Dory and the Barramundi. All orders were fresh, grilled very nicely, served with a parmesan cream sauce as well as potato and veg. Just great grilled fish, prompting a second meal here. Lumpia served during second meal was just fine.
Will specifically target returning to Retro Beach Restaurant for more grilled fish the next time we...
