Gosh if I could give 6 stars I would. Exceptional modern Indonesian restaurant - dare I say my new favourite in the city. Situated in the gorgeous Fairmont hotel, the venue is understated but elegant, with Indonesian accents and decor throughout. The restaurant occupies a large space with partitions, with every table having good distance from each other, ensuring an intimate and private-like dining experience. Service was attentive and courteous, as one would expect from a five star hotel.
Intro of crackers and a medley of 3 types of sambal came to start. Yum. We then proceeded with Tuna Gohu, a wonderful, fresh raw tuna dish that whet our appetite with a nice zesty zing. We followed with Rawon sumsum which was a delectable take on the classic eastern Java dish - mild, but has that essential “kluwak” flavour, absolutely delicious! For mains we shared the Nasi Goreng Daun Jeruk which was fragrant and comes with generous portions of tender beef. I do wish for the Nasi Goreng to have more of a “wok hay” or smokey flavour characteristic of wok-cooked fried rice.
We also had the Seabass Woku which came with a rich, creamy, velvety, coconuty yellow sauce and a killer fresh aromatic sambal! Fish was barely with bones and super tender. What a winner!
To close, we shared their Durian Panacotta which had the essence of the infamous fruit but balanced elegantly with refreshing citrus acidity.
Overall, I can’t stop raving about this restaurant. Truly a must visit when in the metropolis for an upscale Indonesian experience. Oh, don’t forget to request for a spot by the windows to...

We came here for afternoon tea and boy how I love the menus they have! A lot of varieties of Indonesian traditional food have been cleverly prepared in a Fusion way. A playe of pisang goreng or tempe goreng and es teler can look amazingly appealing here. I don’t really remember the exact name of the menus but we tried pisang goreng, wrapped in pastry with extra ice cream; cheese cake with es teler in it? (I notice the jack fruit and the avocado) and fried tempe with yummy sambal. I also enjoyed the fried wonton with oxtail inside (supeeer yum!) and Tape Tarte Tatin, tape or fermented cassava wrapped in crispy puff pastry (the staff told me it was cooked for 45 minutes as they cooked it from scratch to perfection 👌). And that Bomb Alaska Markisa Medan! It looks super cute and...
Read moreWhen it comes to Fairmont, you expect nothing but excellence. I was here during Ramadhan and I enjoyed the AYCE menu. I have tried SATE in many places but in 1945 Restaurant their SATE was in another level. Very tender and delicious. For TAKJIL menu, though the menu didn't encompass many varieties of Takjil, the available Takjil was in the pinnacle of quality. If you ask about the price, get prepared for a fancy fine dining price. The ambience was so calm and relaxing. The staff were helpful and friendly as always. I recommend the lamb and Beef SATE, Brisket, all varieties of RUJAKs. The chicken was also very good. Yet, i think the spices in the grilled fish were not intermingled well with the fish bit still the quality was at the top. Anyway, if you want to enjoy the Indonesian Cuisine at its excellence, 1945 restaurant...
