Big Concept, Small Portions — ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️
This homey, delightful restaurant exudes the urban French cafe atmosphere so well, that I nearly forgot all the small issues I had with the food. The restaurant ultimately managed to satisfy the taste buds, but still left much to be desired.
So our dine consisted of 2 entrees, 2 mains and 1 dessert
Escargot de Bourbognet (Escargot w/ Garlic Bread): The escargots kept their signature taste, thanks to the meticulous preparation, and the garlic breads were prepared with much expertise, leading to a nice mixture of crunchy edges that are fun to bite through, but also a delicate structure that dissolves as you ingest them. The dish was simple and tasty, but I only wish the portions were bigger.
3 & 4. Steaks & Sides: Arguably the best items in their menu, these two steaks (Tenderloin & Pan-Seared), lit up the dining experience. Great in their own uniquely-prepped ways, yet still equally soft and tasty, these two items certainly lived up to their main-dish (or “Plats Principaux”) classifications and are a must-try when visiting this restaurant. In conjunction with the steaks, the sides of French Fries and Cream Spinach (while slightly tough) also added more flavor to the dishes, and were tasty in the own right. All in all, you can’t really go wrong with this dish.
Tiramisu: it’s brown, signature coloring and soft, powdery texture makes it’s no less presentable than the other great tiramisus of the city, however the taste left more to be desired. The tiramisu wasn’t as sweet as I expected, but on the other hand, it didn’t fully commit to it’s more coffee-centric flavoring. Thus, the dish kinda just exists in this strange middle ground where it certainly TASTES like Tiramisu, but doesn’t WOW you like a lot of Tiramisus do. Nevertheless, I still thought it was a nice meal-closer; I only wish the taste was...
Read moreI visited this cute bistro in Jaksel, and while I understand the hype around its aesthetic, my experience didn't quite meet my high expectations, especially considering the promising menu. Here’s my breakdown:
Rillettes du Saumon: The menu described it as a creamy salmon spread, but in reality, it was dry, bland, and I even found a few salmon bones. I noticed they only served it with two thin crunchy bread, compared with the size of the salmon spread, we think they should add more bread. BRIQ, don’t be afraid to add more seasoning to this dish!
Salade du BRIQ: We ordered this because it was featured as their signature dish, but we were disappointed. The plating resembled a pre-packaged supermarket salad, and the beef was dry, bland, and lacked seasoning. The dressing was basic—just olive oil, salt, and pepper. If it’s your signature, it should stand out more!
Tagliatelles à la Moelle et aux Truffle: The menu described this as a pasta with creamy bone marrow truffle butter sauce, but we didn’t taste any bone marrow or truffle. The sauce tasted more like Alfredo, and we felt it needed more seasoning. When we politely mentioned this to the waiter, they responded with, “There’s table salt on your table, ma’am.” It was a bit awkward, as we were hoping for a more confident response from the kitchen.
Canard à l’Orange: The dish was okay, but we were hoping that the waiter ask how we wanted our duck cooked, but they didn’t. We prefer it medium-rare, but it was served medium-well, and some parts were tough while others were tender. Next time, I’ll probably try something else.
Crêpes Suzette: I was expecting thin, soft crepes, but what arrived was more like a semi-thick, airy pancake (almost like a dadar gulung). After checking the menu description, I realized they serve French pancakes instead. While it might just be their style, I personally prefer the traditional thin, elastic crepes. But hey on the bright side, the citrus butter was ok and I LOVEEE THEIR HOMEMADE VANILLA BEAN ICE CREAM! ❤️
Overall: The service was excellent; we felt truly seen, and the staff listened to our feedback. The restaurant has only been open for three months, so there’s room for improvement, but we hope they’ll refine the...
Read morePicked the right place for a birthday dinner. Really love the classic dimly-lit gastro ambience, perfect for fancy romantic dinner dates. I do have to note that the toilet seat in one of the restrooms was broken, it did not greatly affect the whole dining experience but it's just something to take note on. Cute addition of mouthwash by the sink though, perfect for freshening up our breaths after that heavy meal😂
The meals served have generous portions with affordable prices, couldn't get better than that. The house wine was alright, enough to complement the meal. Nevertheless, the food was amazing. I've had a fair share of experience on receiving steaks with incorrect doneness from what was requested in establishments with a much higher price point. However, BRIQ Bistro did NOT disappoint in this department. Both steaks we ordered were perfectly medium rare as requested. The Tagliatelle was the highlight of our dinner though. Very rich flavors from the bone marrow truffle butter sauce that just slapped me back and forth as the pickle cuts through all that and added a new dimension to the dish.
Also, great service as well. We were served by Mba Nava, who was quite attentive in ensuring that we had a great time throughout the whole dining experience.
Overall, I am glad to celebrate my birthday here. Will definitely be returning to BRIQ Bistro for...
