Absolutely a must try !!! One of the new outstanding place in the already packed row of restaurants, thought it was the expansion of the old Magal restaurant in the other block, but turns out it's not.
This restaurant is the officially franchised restaurant recognized by Didim, the parent company of Magal (or Shin Mapogalmaegi as they know it in South Korea). We can find the certificate posted inside.
Uniquely situated next door to the already established competitor, I was curious to try even though we have to wait for a while during the packed Saturday nite.
I tried their popular selections which is Mapo Galmaegi (also the name of the restaurant) which is marinated pork skirt meat which taste sweet, while the meat are tender and juicy. They also have the spicy version called Maecom Galmaegi.
For the beef, I ordered Kkotsal Jumulleok (marinated boneless short rib) which I found delicious and also the beef tounge which tastes well above average.
Their Japchae has the alluring aromatic taste, a bit exceptional than the others. I also love their Galbi Yukgaejang (spicy beef back rib soup) and Doenjajjigae (soybean paste stew).
On the side, I tried Jumeokbap (rice ball) which I found interesting since we can make it ourselves (if we want to) and taste good.
Service was quite efficient and attentive, and the prices are reasonable. I would say more value than most Korean establishments in town.
Overall, we have quite a feast and would definitely love to come back and crave...

Might be a bit crowded on a weekend, but even during weekdays there are numerous customer coming in for lunch as well. However since there are 2 storeys available, seating shouldn't be a problem as far as my experience tells me.
Glass and utensils are cling wrapped for cleanliness. Very good point from health safety perspective
Price are still as reasonable as it used to be (before the pandemic) and portion is a bit smaller but quality is maintained accordingly
All the staff are friendly and have great knowledge of menu, cooking skill also gets a thumbs up
The only thing that can be bothersome is parking. There's valet available but never tried them out before. Maybe others can share better regarding parking space in...

Saya datang sekeluarga ber-8 memesan 3 porsi samgyeopsal, 3 mapo galmaegi, 1 porsi beef sy lupa namanya (harga 1 porsi beef 300k-ish), 1 cheese tteokbokki, 2 porsi sundubujjigae. Total 1.4jutaan dalam 1 bill.
Kami merasa dari sekian banyak pesanan daging, yang mana harganya tidak bisa dibilang murah, side dish yg diberikan sangat sedikit. Kami harus berkali-kali memanggil waiter waitress untuk meminta kimchi, ssamjang, pajeon yang per piringnya sedikit sekali padahal pesan daging juga bukan cuma 1-2 porsi, mengingat jumlah pax nya juga lebih dari 4 orang, saya rasa kurang bijak bagi restoran untuk mengeluarkan side dish terlalu sedikit, kondisi resto juga ramai pengunjung membuat staff perlu waktu 5 menit lebih untuk 1-2 side dish yg kami minta (kimchi, pajeon hanya 2 potong kecil?????, lettuce dikasih 2 mangkok tapi setiap diminta refill lama sekali diantarnya). Nasi yg dipesan pun keluarnya tidak barengan, lalu slh 1 waitress bilang nasi nya habis jadi perlu waktu lagi dibuat. Like???? Nasi?? Habis??? Padahal ini weekend dan ramai pengunjung? Sampai makannya harus tunggu-tungguan. Nasinya 1 porsi belom keluar, sedangkan sundubu jjigae sudah keluar. Sundubu jjigae aja dibuat sepaket dgn 1 nasi, which means sudah sewajarnya keluar barengan dgn nasi. Sy lihat pesanan nasi meja saya blm lengkap tapi meja lain yg dtg belakangan keluar duluan. Alhasil sundubu jjigae sudah hampir habis nasi baru keluar.
Lalu sy dari awal sudah pesan, bahwa ini kan 8 paxs, minta tolong bowl yg dipake untuk sundubu jjigae pakai yg besar, supaya sy ngga ribet utk minta kuah tambahan dan ga ribetin waitress yg lagi sibuk serving meja lain. Ternyata yg datang tetap menggunakan 1 bowl personal. Pesanan berikutnya baru pakai bowl besar. Giliran sy minta tambah kuah (bukan tambah isian loh ya, kuah tok) lama sekali sampai sy harus bawa bowl saya keliling cari staff baju hitam yg in charge (mungkin head waitress?).
Sy rasa akan lebih bijaksana jika melihat 1 meja yg isinya lebih dari 4 paxs untuk diberikan lebih banyak side dish tanpa harus kita ngemis-ngemis; toh side dish udah include dgn menu yg kita pesan.. utk refill minuman pun juga took time too long.
satu lagi, tidak ada bell utk panggil waitress juga sedangkan kondisi ramai jadi susah sekali rasanya harus teriak atau berdiri samperin waitress yg mana semuanya juga hilir mudik serving. Tolong tingkatkan servicenya. 1.4juta dalam 1 bill rasanya tidak terbilang murah untuk dapat side dish yg sedikit-sedikit keluarnya. Ya sy paham mungkin takut dikeluarkan banyak tp terbuang. Tlg disesuaikan dgn jumlah paxnya...
