First impression from this restaurant ,it's not quite an atmosphere that have quiet and tranquil decoration ,rather it have bright colored and cheerful decoration ,light colored woods everywhere ,and some lantern behind the sushi bar, quite good and nice ,but in my opinion it looks a little bit cheap and boring ,it didn't show that you're a decent Japanese restaurant.
Move on to the menu ,I think they have similar menu with their tough rival around the corner : sushi sen, except ,they have many variety of "aburi" sushi ,and they have some package for the sushi and sashimi . The type of fish is also less variative compared with his competitor . In the end I ordered salmon sushi , hiro aburi sushi set ,and shiok roll .
The first one that come is salmon sushi ,I could say this one is good ,but nothing special . But for the price that they offered ,it's still good . The fish is fresh the cut is also good it's a pity they didn't put some Wasabi on top of the rice before the fish ,and they didn't glaze the fish with special sauce .
I next will move to the shiok roll . This roll I would say .. one of the nicest fusion roll that I've ever eat . For me this roll is still have a bit too much dressing, but the meat inside (if I'm not mistaken : unagi and salmon ? ) is well fused with the other ingredients ,if found quite myself enjoy this rolls so much ,which is quite rare for me to enjoy fusion rolls these days.
Finally ,the hiro aburi sushi set. It contain Tamago (egg omelete) sushi ,ika ( squid) sushi ,salmon sushi ,salmon belly sushi , beef sushi ,and hotate (scallop) sushi. First all of these sushi is scorch by torch ,or you can say these is grilled sushi ,and they glaze special sauce on top of the sushi .
First off,the Tamago aburi sushi,it taste good ,nice combination for the omelete with the sweet sauce . It is a good one.
Second , the ika aburi sushi . The texture of the squid is quite good ,and the way they scorch the squid is well executed, not undercooked or overcooked . I can say it is a good ika sushi ,but unfortunately I've tasted a better ika sushi with better squid texture before .
Third ,the salmon belly aburi sushi ,I could say.... this one is the star of tonight's dinner . I'm quite surprised the way they cook this baby ,when it enter your mouth ,the salmon it just literally melt in your mouth ,and the sauce fuse with the meat... and all that rich salmon + the sauce and rice spread into your mouth ! I would recommend you to try this baby if you come here !
Fourth ,the salmon aburi sushi , it have similar sensation with the salmon belly aburi sushi ,but it had more texture ,and less buttery then the salmon belly ,still I could say this is a good sushi. Recommended !
Fifth ,hotate aburi scallop . I would give a big hand for how they pick these good quality scallops ,and thank you for making these babies well cooked ,it wasn't over or under cooked. The texture is nice ,crunchy yet tender ,the sweetness of the scallop was strengthened by the special sauce that they glazed on top of it ,making the taste of the scallop is even nicer . It is a recommended one too !
Last, the beef sushi . I have high expectations from this sushi ,the way they decorate it is very nice . They put fried sliced garlic on top of it and glazed the meat with special sauce ,but ! Taste wise ... it's quite a letdown for me .. I didn't said it wasn't good ,it's just good ,but it's not very special .. you could try these one ,but I wouldn't very recommend this one .
For the service from this restaurant ,I could say it was good . The food is served quite fast despite the restaurant is packed with people ,but the waiter that served is not really confident when they try to explain the detail of food that I asked .
There are some things that I don't like from this restaurant . First ,the portion is quite small ,and for some food the price is overpriced a bit . Second ,the restaurant is too small and they...
Read moreAs pretty and 'instagram-worthy' this place is, I personally don't think they deserve anything more than 2 stars.
Let's start with the good: very rustic and traditional interior, coupled with excellent branding and semi-high price tags, sushi hiro is alluring and tempting, tricking you into thinking it's a 'legit' Japanese restaurant.
The bad: unfortunately, that's all there is, a trick. The pretty interior and menu, the unmistakably Japanese tight entrance and the fancy sushi pedestals are mere facade to hide what they lack of: actual food quality. While the fish are fresh, get ready to be disappointed with the rice. Not only they don't use good short-grain rice typical for its price range, the sushi rice flavoring is pretty nonexistent, and the rice is mushy and bland. The gyudon beef was probably broiled instead of grilled, and the end result was a tasty mess, a perfect waste of good beef. The salmon head was overcooked to the point where the meat parts were tough and hard to take out. The aburi squid was horribly gamey, proof that the raw squid was not prepared well.
The only savior was their sashimi and Hokkaido pudding, which were nice. But for a place with 'sushi' in its name, and relative to its price, Sushi Hiro is a major disappointment. Don't bother paying so much for...
Read moreIt’s just sushi, with great presentation and great decor and that, I think, adds to the overall experience.
It seems that almost all my friends have eaten at Sushi Hiro before, so I thought, hey I should probably check it out. We went to the one in PIK.
The ambience is great. We went there during lunch time on Saturday, and we managed to get in before the queue starts outside.
The style is japanese, but modern. It has a calming effect. The restaurant is not loud, so you don’t have to shout while talking to your friends, unlike some of the new restaurants in PIK (cough Kam’s roast cough)
Foodwise, the have a LOT of choices. Like, 300 menus a lot. Anything japanese food you can think of is served here.
Of course, the food is brought out on this infamous “stair” serving tray. It’s cool at first but you get bored of it after a few visits I guess.
The taste is good, price is ok I guess, we spent about 420k for two, service is just ordinary, but you come here for the novelty and ambience, not for...
