Meatsmith Jakarta — Restaurant in Jakarta

I came here for New Year’s Eve with my family, and I have to say, I was completely disappointed.

I made a reservation through Google and was contacted via WhatsApp. The restaurant notified me beforehand that many of their menu items were sold out, which I thought was a reasonable initiative. Knowing this, I asked if I could place an order in advance to ensure I could get the food I wanted. However, they said they couldn’t accept “preorders” for their best-selling items 😅. I expressed my concerns, and they compromised by allowing me to preorder just one item—a policy I found quite baffling. If they were so worried about no-shows, they could’ve implemented a down payment policy, but they didn’t. When I said I wanted to cancel my reservation, they suddenly removed the one-item preorder restriction and allowed me to order everything I wanted.

Upon arrival, the service was pleasant. We ordered: • Ribeye (200g) • Striploin (300g) • Double cheeseburger • Brisket tacos • Lemon tea • A virgin something drink

Unfortunately, 90% of these dishes were a total miss. For example, the lemon tea was so sour it was practically undrinkable. However, the waiter quickly replaced it with a new one, free of charge, which was appreciated.

As for the main courses… disaster. I don’t know what happened to the meat quality this time, but it was barely edible. I had to spit some of it out because it was impossible to chew. We requested two different levels of doneness for the steaks—medium and medium-well—and the more “done” it was, the tougher it became 😅.

Flavor-wise, the meat was bland—no dry-aged flavor, no aroma, nothing. It’s probably one of the worst steaks I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried a fair number of steaks. When the waiter asked about the food, we honestly said the steak was unchewable. He simply smiled and said, “Oh, it’s not alot, Bapak! It’s just dry-aged steak. We don’t call it alot; it’s just dry-aged.” He also mentioned, “Kami proses dagingnya pake kayu bakar, Pak.” Assuming this was part of their SOP, I didn’t press further.

The cheeseburger was just okay—a letdown since people had said it was good. I chalked this up to personal preference. However, here’s something funny: we ordered two single cheeseburgers for takeaway (which wasn’t officially on the menu—they only listed double cheeseburgers). It turned out the price difference between the single and double was only IDR 10,000 😂. Had we known that, we would’ve just ordered the standard double cheeseburgers.

The tacos were decent! The brisket was nicely cooked. I didn’t love the sauce, but my family enjoyed this dish.

Ironically, the best thing I tasted here was the complimentary garlic bread HAHA. The softness was unreal—like biting into a cloud. My compliments to whoever made that dough.

Overall, I was completely disappointed. My dad mentioned he had visited Meatsmith three times before, and the meat quality was never this bad. We suspect it had something to do with the rush of customers for New Year’s Eve, which likely affected the restaurant’s ability to deliver a proper dining experience. My mom even noted that the meat had a slight “refrigerator” scent.

I’ve read similar complaints here, so I hope this feedback is...

Pengalaman pertama makan ber 4 sm keluarga, Kita pesan: cheeseburger, salmon grill & nasi goreng.

The cheeseburger should be a signature at the restaurant on this level, taste just OK. However, this is my very first experience to order cheeseburger & salmon grill (with "their" price level) and come with no side dish, yes! No chips, no potatoes, no vegies / garnish. Agak aneh sih, mau dibilang it's their own style, i think most of indonesian would expect carbo and vegies served together as side dishes on the same plate as the main course. I think most of the same price level of those meat restaurants, all their main courses served with carbo and vegies, this is Indonesia, i would highly suggest not to be so different with others.

I certainly will come back again once you already served side dishes on the main courses! And would love to try your trully signature; the steiks!🥰 lemme know!

Owh, the nasi goreng, sorry, but its terrible & harsh, compare to the portion that very little (cuma 4 suap habis), the price and whether they've made mistake or its their trully standard of nasi goreng, asiiin bgt!!! and has no taste! Tho, they said sorry, and they're willing to serve the same freshly cooked of nasi goreng and gave us compliment for that too, with; what they so called ice cream for my kids, but its only sundays McD ice cream😥

Owh yes, somebody have already comment on the previous review that the staff are so nice but a bit too many... and they are watching us while we eat, like they are worry how would we react after first bite, second bite, and so on... would that be the issue of the brief from...

Such a gem and what a shame that I found it now! As a meat lover, this truly satisfy my craving for meat. Unfortunately I have to drive, so I can’t really try the wine :(

Anyway! Up to the review

Ambience of the place 5/5! Love how cozy and minimalist the place is. What I also love there is, the place is not too loud. Probably cause we were there during the afternoon. Nevertheless the place is so good for taking photos!

Service 5/5 When the waitress took our order, she’s so cheerful and even made sure to recommend how our steak should be to taste even better. Love how she’s also attentive without even us having to talk to her. I forgot the name (I’m sorry I’m so bad with name! 😭) but definitely she’s great! We also enjoy how everyone is so friendly there and help us to take photos 🤣 We went there for celebrating my friend’s birthday and everything is so well spent.

Food 5/5 We ordered the fries (super worth it!) they are so crispy and the seasoning is also 😋

Then we had the brief brisket. It’s bit too much fat but despite that, we still love it as the fat is easy to swallow and didn’t taste weird in mouth.

The striploin!! Omg where have I been all this time? 😭 love the meat! It’s so easy to cut so you can tell that it’s super super tender and juicy and damn I want another more now 😂

Over all, it’s a good place to satisfy my crave for meat. Would go there again next time with my family

Oh, and don’t forget to reserve first before coming as their place seems do not have that...
