This wasnât the first time I came to this place. And yet the last time, I had this encountered with a rather new receptionist. She wouldnât let me go inside because of the shoes rules and sheâs being difficult about it.
I just know that it apparently it has been quite known that modernhaus have this strict shoes rules âno sandalâ they said.
But The thing is:
Iâm using appropriate professional flats that is heavily used to go to office, meeting clients, and used for professional needs. This raise a question, this is a subjective thing or what? Or your receptionist donât have any knowledge on how an appropriate attire look like? Or you donât train it? Or you like having such arrogant snobbish image? Funnily I checked with my friends and all of them said the same âModernhaus is known for being a difficult and racist placeâ
The receptionist said âThere should be no toes seenâ
It was night obviously? Where should I even look for shoes for them not to be seen? Come on. Imagine other people travelled far just to be denied upon entry because of your subjective rules that doesnât even shown in the social media for people to know. Make it make sense.
When I check with the security downstairs and ask him about this rules. He said that yes that rules exist but he said himself that Iâm eligible. Thatâs why he let me in in the first place because obviously mine is ânot sandal jepitâ :). He even contacted his commander and he said the same. That mine is allowed.
Luckily my friend passed by and can exchange her shoes with mine and upon entering Iâm so mad that the girl beside me using heels with toes everyone can see :)
Shame on you modernhaus. You look like Bali business before covid where it filled with contrasting treatment between expat and indo people by...
Read moreI recently visited Modernhaus, and I was thoroughly impressed by this new addition to the local bar scene. The atmosphere is delightful, featuring long huge table seating arrangement, warm lighting, and a modern yet cozy decor that makes it perfect for both intimate gatherings and lively nights out.
The cocktail menu is truly a standout, offering a creative array of drinks that cater to various palates. I tried the signature Kenanga and Melati, crafted with precision and bursting with flavorâa perfect blend of smooth gin and a hint of Jasmine. The bartenders are not only skilled but also genuinely passionate about their craft, eager to recommend drinks based on your preferences. Ooh, and they allow us to order dessert from Bouchon as this bar is located in the same building as Bouchon restaurant. FYI, this place doesnât have parking space, though they provide valet service for 35k including the parking fee.
Overall, Modernhaus offers a fantastic experience with its inviting ambiance and expertly crafted cocktails. Whether youâre looking for a place to unwind after work or kick off a night out, this bar is definitely worth a visit. I canât wait to return to explore more of their menu!

Read moreIâm honestly shocked at how bad my experience was at Modernhaus â especially from a place featured on the 50 Best Discovery list. I expected something at least decent, but what I got was one of the most disappointing bar visits Iâve ever had.
Cocktails were incredibly underwhelming. For a bar that markets itself as high-end, the drinks were a letdown and frankly below the standard of many casual spots in Jakarta.
Service was so unprofessional. One bartender (shoulder-length hair, green jumpsuit) was blatantly rude and sarcastic, making unsolicited side comments that bordered on hostility. Another staff member spoke to us with a level of informality I wouldnât even expect at a roadside stallâ let alone a bar claiming to be top-tier.
The space is beautiful, no doubt. But whatâs the point of good design when the drinks are subpar and the staff makes you feel uncomfortable?
I rarely write negative reviews, but this one couldnât be ignored. Modernhaus might have a pretty facade, but behind it is poor execution and shockingly bad customer service. This place seriously needs a reality check starting with their...
