During my recent visit to South Kitchen, I had the chance to taste a few of their offerings, and while the experience had its highlights, there were some areas that left me wanting more.
First off, I ordered the Nasi Rames, a dish I had high hopes for. However, for the price point, the portion and variety of toppings felt somewhat underwhelming. The flavors were decent enough, earning a respectable 8/10, but the portion size didn’t quite justify the cost, especially when compared to similar dishes elsewhere. I’ll attach the pics.
On the brighter side, the Dory Sambel Matah was a standout. The fish was cooked to perfection, and the sambal added just the right amount of kick. The portion of the dory was generous and left me thoroughly satisfied—a dish I would gladly recommend. Be careful of the spiciness, I have high tolerance so I liked it.
As for dessert, we went with the Pisang Goreng, which came with a delightful dipping sauce that complemented the banana nicely. Unfortunately, the portion size was a (little bit) letdown. Instead of the expected large, fan-shaped slices, they served smaller, stick-like pieces, leaving me wishing there was more on the plate.
From a flavor perspective, South Kitchen delivered. I found myself enjoying the taste of everything we tried, despite some minor quibbles about portions.
Now, let’s talk about the ambiance. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and overall, it’s a pleasant place to relax. However, during my visits in the daytime, I found it uncomfortably warm—even when seated indoors under the air conditioning. It seems like the restaurant could be more mindful of the temperature and make sure all the A/C units are fully operational, especially on hotter days. There’s no reason for guests to feel overheated when a little more effort could fix that issue.
In conclusion, while South Kitchen delivers on taste, they could work on balancing their portions with the pricing and ensuring a more comfortable environment for diners. It’s definitely a spot with potential, but there’s room for...
Read morethis place is very cozy, and chill. it's spacious with simple design. it's supposed to be a good place to hang out. they need to fix the service management.
but, i would think twice before going to this place because of the service. it takes so long for your food to be served. last time i was there, i waited for more than half an hour for my food to be ready. i needed to keep asking the waiter because i was waiting for so long.
they have some rice dishes for the base menu. nasi rames jeruk is basically a steamed rice with orange zest, served with sliced scrambled eggs, stir-fried tempe, and chili sambal. you can add side dishes like empal suwir pedas, which is shredded spicy beef jerky.
the portion is too small, both for the rice and the beef. the beef is not too tender, although it tastes okay. moreover, they're not warm despite the long waiting time.
if you leave a review here, follow their instagram page, and love their content, you can get a free mochi ice cream. of course, you need a while for it to be served. just keep asking the waiter if the ice cream hasn't...
Read moreEven though I live in Setiabudi, this was my first time visiting the coffee shop, and unfortunately, I had an unpleasant experience. After dinner, I looked for affogato for dessert. On Google Maps, I saw that this coffee shop served it; I also ensured they closed at 22:00 WIB. I arrived at 21:05 WIB, and as soon as I opened the door, I was greeted curtly by a middle-aged woman wearing glasses, “Sorry, it’s our last order.” I thought, okay, no problem because I wouldn’t spend a long time for a glass of affogato. Again, I told the woman that, and she answered curtly, “No, we have turned off the machine.” Feeling like I was being chased out, I left without saying anything. From that incident, I understood that in this coffee shop, “last order” means “We are closed....
