Happy Mother’s Day!!!! Maybe some treats for favorite woman in your life, or well, ladies, we can always treat ourselves, just like what Lisah and Angie always do. And @carbon.jkt definitely doesn’t disappoint!! . #1: brightly lit, large windows. Intimate settings. . #2: #bluecornchips According to mbah Google (yes i did my research, i am curious like that 🤣), blue corn contains the naturally occurring anthocyanin (found in blueberries too) high in antioxidants and anti imflammatory properties, low in GI, non GMO (hoorahhh!!), grown in Mexico & southwestern America (Source: wikipedia)
#3: red and white quinoa Blackbeans, grilled romaine, guacamole, orange lime dressing (and orange bits....trust me, the flavor burst was surprisingly delicious - and something as simple as grilled romaine, i never knew it could be so gewd......and if it were up to me, i wouldnt have ordered this cos i don’t usually like quinoa....but this..... i dig....fully....wholeheartedly.....with the blue corn chips, make sure you get everything in the bowl before you eat em) . #4&5: brussel sprouts (Coles de Bruselas) Cheese fondue, roasted jalapeño & chanpignon rajas, served with bluechips on the side. Again, if i were given the option to choose, i definitely wouldnt choose this. I don’t even like brussel sprouts! Served warm, with those thin crispy brussel sprouts. Til the last drop of cheese 🧀 .
#7: pick me up coffee - fancy setting (super love!!) and the coffee itself was quite good. . #8: pastel de chocotexturas (chocolate textures cake) Cake with 10 forms of chocolate and chile arbol chocolate ice cream. I cant further explain it.....it’s unexplainable and best to be tried and get hooked. The dark, milk, white, mousse, crunch, melted, spicy, warm, cold....indescribable. . #9: chuddos - churros x donuts Cinnamon sugar chuddos served with two dips of goat milk cajeta & hot cocoa champurrado. Said to be made like the ones found in #Disneyland. Well, i’ve never been to one (oh i did....but never tried one), but these chuddos, definitely satisfied our sweettooth cravings. . Will return on the next feed about the mains. Stay...
Read moreJust had dinner at Carbón a few weeks ago with a few dear friends of mine and we are ultimately satisfied with both the service and the food that the Carbón team delivered! Simply a superb experience.
Right when we arrived we were pleasantly greeted by Lidwina and was led to our table. And Wiwie presented us with the menu, helped us choose what are the recommended food that we need to try. We are so glad to have her as our server that night as it was clear that she has mastered the menu explanation and passionately explained to us what to expect if we ordered certain food, kudos to you Wiwie!
The ambience of the restaurant is really enjoyable and the view from the window is just simply amazing as it overlooks the metropolitan city of Jakarta.
And the food! Oh my god the food is out of this world. We ordered some quesabirrias, oyster mushroom anticucho, and tuna tostada as the starter and they were a mouth watering sensation to eat as each bite pack so much flavor.
One of my friend wanted to try the vegetarian menu they had on their menu "Cauliflower steak" (recommended by Wiwie) and we were astonished by how such a humble ingredient as cauliflower could be made so delicious! I myself had the duck breast tacos which was just so juicy and tender. Accompanied with fresh avocado crema and salsa roja as the sauce, and also grilled pineapple and freshly sliced crisp white onion, so full of festive flavors!
Another friend of mine had the beef tacos, which I don't really like very much but apparently he did. Because I thought the beef already mainly tastes bitter and umami but then paired with chocolatey umami sauce again? And we also had the churros-donut thing which was so good as it was crunchy and soft on the inside and paired with delicious chocolatey sauce on the side. Kudos to the chefs as well! Especially chef Jeffry who we got to greet at the chef's station
All in all, it was a great dining experience! Looking forward to many more visits when I come back to...
Read moreMy hunt for exciting wood-fire cuisine took me to Carbon at MD Place in Jakarta, a spot that’s all about bold Latin American vibes with a focus on Mexican and Peruvian-inspired flavoirs. The menu is focused on fire-kissed dishes, from creative takes on classics to a few experimental gems. And let me tell you, everything we tried hit the mark. First up, the Cauliflower Steak – a total standout. It’s charred to smoky perfection, giving it that satisfying bite you’d expect from a good steak, served with a rich sauce and topped with fresh herbs. Who knew cauliflower could be this good? The Soft Shell Crab Tacos were another winner. Think crispy yet tender crab paired with a tangy slaw and punchy salsas, all tucked into a soft purple tortilla – pure joy in every bite.
Meat lover? Go for the Quesabirria, described as Quesadillas x Tacos, Oaxaca cheese, with a consommé dip – the beef is melt-in-your-mouth tender and layered with gooey cheese inside a perfectly crispy, lightly charred tortilla. It’s a bold and playful spin on a street food classic. And don’t sleep on the Grilled Corn. It’s simple, yes, but ridiculously addictive. The corn is grilled just right, with a smoky, caramelised sweetness that’s elevated by a sprinkle of savoury seasonings. From the mains, the fresh and juicy Tiger Prawns impress, smokily fragrant from the Peruvian anticucho glaze, served with polenta grits and green mojo sauce.
The vibe at Carbon matches the food – sleek and modern, with an industrial yet cozy feel. Minimalist decor, pops of greenery, and floor-to-ceiling windows give you a great view of the Kuningan business district from the 11th floor. The open kitchen adds a layer of excitement, letting you watch the magic happen. This place is a gem. Sure, it’s on the pricier side for Jakarta, but honestly, it’s worth it. A solid spot for wood-fire...
