My recent dining experience at Animale in Jakarta was nothing short of extraordinary. Awarding it four stars reflects its outstanding cuisine, inviting ambiance, and attentive service.
Beginning with the cold cuts platter, I was delighted by the thoughtfully curated selection of cured meats, complemented by flavorful crackers, olives, and whole grain mustard. It was a true palate-pleaser that I highly recommend to all diners.
Moving on to the mains, the cheek and foie pasta showcased the chef's creativity and skill. The unique pasta, paired with wagyu beef cheek and grated foie gras, resulted in a harmonious blend of flavors. The addition of the egg yolk elevated the sauce to new heights, making it a standout dish.
However, the Bone Marrow pasta, while boasting a savory balance and delightful texture from the parmesan crumbs, was impacted by its butter sauce base (burro fuso) and the inherent richness of the bone marrow, resulting in a slightly greasy texture. Nonetheless, its taste was undeniably memorable.
Similarly, the cheesetart, though a departure from traditional expectations, was a creamy delight. Made with camembert, it offered a heavenly texture that elevated the dining experience.
In addition to its culinary offerings, Animale excels in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The charming outdoor area and impeccably maintained restroom facilities further enhance the overall dining experience.
While Animale impresses on many fronts, the slight greasiness of certain dishes detracted slightly from the overall experience. However, this minor drawback does not diminish the restaurant's excellence.
In conclusion, my visit to Animale was a culinary adventure that I thoroughly enjoyed. I look forward to returning in the future to explore more of their menu offerings. For anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience in Jakarta, Animale comes highly...
Read moreI always have great lunch or dining experience here. Yesterday was exceptional because I came with a foodie friend and he happens to know the chef there. He went overboard with the orders. We got a total of 7 courses, 1 is on the house.
We got the Wagyu & Foie Gras Carpaccio, the new Octopus menu with hummus, Beef Tartare from the Aged + Butchered (they always let you cross-order from all the restaurants in the building!), the cured pork that is on the house, one pasta that I'm not sure what the name is, Spanish Carabineros, and then another pasta, ravioli, that I'm not sure also about the name lol.
Get the Wagyu Carpaccio for a good appetizer to start with. The crunch and savory of the parmesan stick with the tender Wagyu mixes well in the mouth. The octopus is so tender. If you love octopus, you should definitely get this. The third dish is not on the menu but it was hasselback potatoes with cured pork. The chef came to explain that they are the only one restaurant in the whole Jakarta, or even in Indonesia that cure pork up to a year. The pork is so savory and it just melts in your mouth. The saltiness balances well with the soft potato. The fourth menu is Beef Tartare that I to be honest not a fan of because it's a bit on the sweet side. The beef is super tender though and I finished the pork chicharoon. The two questionable pastas are so good. The ravioli is my favorite! If you like herby, buttery, and a fan of pesto, definitely get the ravioli. The last one is the Spanish Carabineros that I'm also not a fan of. I'm not a red sauce pasta person and also not a fan of praw. This is however is my friend's favorite menu. The bill came up to 1.5-1.8 million if I'm not wrong.
We moved afterwards to Carbon and ordered the Old-fashioned Matcha from Wabisabi that you should definitely try wherever you dine from, as long as it's an...
Read moreWe ordered 4 foods here:
1.) Bone Marrow Pasta. I think this is one of their iconic dish here in Animale. For those of you who really like truffles, this may be the best dish for you as you can really taste the truffle on this dish and it’s delicious. They use gnocchi on this dish, however, I barely sense the texture or the flavor of potato here. The gnocchi itself can be softer I guess. So, overall, for me, it’s 8/10
2.) Live White Shrimp. This is the pasta dish where they use Capunti for their pasta and this is my first time eating Capunti. The texture of Capunti itself is really unique thou, have a crispy exterior but sort of like a bouncy texture inside. They really generous with the shrimp, like giving me more than 5 huge fat shrimps in the dish. The sauce itself is really delicious and refreshing since it is tomato-based sauce. So, for me, it is 8.5/10
3.) Oops Cheesetart. The cheese itself has a hint of sour taste like sort of blue cheese (don’t know what type of cheese they use). Actually, it is not bad but maybe not used to the cheesetart with this type of flavor. The crust itself is good, however. So it is 6.5/10
4.) Truffle Truffle. This is the star of the night. They put a lot of unique flavor in this mini dessert bomb. The saltiness of the truffle kinda mixes and balances perfectly with the sweetness and deep flavor of the chocolate. If I come back to Animale again, this is the dish that I absolutely would order again. It is...
