This is the main restaurant of the Intercontinental hotel in South Jakarta. It is located on the second level, and has a large seating area. However, on weekends the hotel breakfast is also popular among non-guests, and the restaurant quickly fills up. In fact, the hotel cannot guarantee seats for hotel guests, and this is the reason we rate the breakfast restaurant three stars instead of five. It is a highly unusual, and quite annoying, to pay for breakfast as included in your room and then not get to enjoy it without a long wait (we were offered to wait 45 minutes, but since we had meetings we had to take another option, the Starbucks on the lobby level). The hotel did not offer a refund for the breakfast cost in our room price… which is consistent with the pretty poor customer focus in this hotel. We have stayed more than 20 nights a year for two years at the hotel, but now seek other options in Jakarta, such as hotels in the Marriott Bonvoy program. But back to the review of the breakfast buffet :-) The breakfast buffet is excellent and ranks among the top ten we have experienced in Asian five-star hotels. The Hilton in Singapore, and the Hyatt in Busan are still better, as well as some local hotels like the Ritz-Carlton. There are all the different foods you would expect at a generous breakfast buffet, including fresh juices and smoothies. However, the selection and execution of making the fresh vegetable/fruit juices still has a long way to go to match the best breakfast buffets. The rice porridge is excellent and so are other Asian dishes. The egg station is very good as well, and there is a waffle and pancake station making your order fresh and delivered at your table. The staff is very nice and helpful and they do their best to alleviate the stressful situations that occur when hotel guests don’t get to have breakfast without a long wait. This never happened at other five-star hotels we stayed at, and we find it unfitting for a hotel with such high prices to not take better care of their guests, which we would assume is their core business. But if you are a local and would like to enjoy a great breakfast buffet, then this is the...
Read moreWent here during their promotion of Buy2Get1Free buffet, during lunch time on a weekday. Very worth it as it is around 300k per person. Place was spacious with lots of variety in foods, that you never get tired of sampling all their different dishes. The highlights would be their seafood bar that has really delicious and fatty free flow sashimi (the salmon and tuna was 😫 to die for), their weekly special - beef stroganoff cooked fresh in front of you, and their dessert bar. The beef stroganoff had really good sauce and was delicious, meat couldve been a bit more tender but for the price is definitely worth it. From the dessert bar I would recommend their mango choux, cherry galette, and strawberry shortcake. They have a wide dessert bar to cater to all levels of sweetness, so I was very satisfied with it. They also had takoyaki made fresh that was good, so I kept coming back for that and the sashimi. Other sections they had were indian/arab influenced foods, appetizers, make your own bruschetta, pizza, western and meat sections.
I was also delighted that all of the servers and cooks speak a decent amount of english and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable during our meal time. Indonesian people are very kind and good at service! Both the food and service made my lunch here quite memorable and I would love to...
Read moreI celebrated my birthday dinner at Sugar & Spice inside InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah, and it was truly unforgettable. The restaurant is often called the best 5-star buffet in South Jakarta, and it definitely lived up to the reputation. The variety was outstanding — from Indonesian favorites and Western classics to a wide selection of Asian dishes. Every station had something exciting to try, and the quality of the food made the whole evening feel like a culinary journey. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for both group celebrations and more intimate dinners. Service was excellent: the staff were attentive without being intrusive, always making sure everything was taken care of smoothly. What really made the night special was the birthday surprise. The team came out with music, a guitar, and sang a heartfelt song before presenting me with a beautifully decorated cake. It was such a personal, genuine touch that turned dinner into a celebration I’ll always remember. Between the incredible food, the thoughtful service, and the lively atmosphere, Sugar & Spice gave me one of the most memorable birthdays I’ve ever had. More than just a buffet, it’s a place that knows how to combine hospitality with celebration in the best...
