The People's Cafe Setiabudi One — Restaurant in Jakarta

People's Cafe has variety of menu as it offer global street foods concept, ranging from Indonesian too Western. The taste of main dishes especially spaghetti carbonara, fish n chips, and salted egg chicken rice were delicious. Spaghetti carbonara was cooked al dente and not too creamy; fish n chips was good enough for the fish nd sauce; and the salted egg chicken rice had good consistency of rice, tasty sauce, and tender fried chicken. For the snacks, such as garlic french fries and chicken mozarella, were so so. The french fries were fried too crispy; as the result, fries lost a potato taste. The portion for each menu was medium, so for those who are extremely hungry it will be better to order two dishes. Orders were served quickly enough, around 20-30 minutes, even though the place was packed by customers.

The place was cozy yet not so spacious; therefore, it would be difficult to find empty table during lunch/dinner especially on the weekend. I suggest to book a table a few hours before. There were 2 areas for non-smoking which were at the frontside and smoking which were at the backside. However, those weren't separated by a wall to prevent the smoke spreading to the air. I could smell the cigarette since I firstly had entered the place. The interior design uses rustic concept combined with a little warehouse touch for bench and some colorful decorations.

Waiter and waitress are very helpful, friendly, and responsive. They have an excellent service to support all the visitors needs. The price of food is quite pricey compared to others resto in Setiabudi One. It will cost from 50k from food, and 20k for beverage. And of course it will be additional taxes. This was honestly the worst visit I’ve ever had to The People Cafe. I sat inside thinking it would be a comfortable indoor space, but it turned out the whole room was filled with people smoking. The air circulation was terrible, so the smoke just lingered in the air. By the time I left, my clothes smelled like cigarettes, and I felt like I’d been breathing smoke the entire time. Came here for my late dinner and the place was less crowded than lunch time. I ordered Salted Egg Chicken Rice Bowl for this time.
