OVERRATED
Although there were some not so complimentary reviews, this place seemed really popular and we were really looking forward to some bbq seafood so we tried to feel optimistic about the evening, however we were sadly disappointed.
This outlet is clearly the busiest amongst all the seafood Warungs on Jimbaran Beach. While service was very prompt, the waiters only take orders for drinks. All food is ordered at the back where the fresh seafood is on display, which is understandable. However the queue was extremely disorganised and haphazard. No one knew where the queue started and people were just cutting in instead of waiting for their turn to select the seafood and make their food order.
To some credit, the food didn’t take too long to arrive although the cafe was very busy (10-15minufes). However when the food arrived it immediately did not taste like it came fresh off the grill. The fish was not piping hot, how can that be when I chose a fresh fish for the grill only 15 minutes ago? The fried calamari and fried rice were definitely pre-cooked as they were at room temperature. The fried calamari tasted like rubber, it was so tough.
The sunset was beautiful and that was about it. before long the smoke from the grilling area soon overpowered more than their share of the entire beach. My clothes now 24 hours later reek strongly of BBQ. The workers at the grill appear to work in a poorly ventilated and enclosed area constantly inhaling all that smoke like a gas chamber. It cannot be good for them doing this day in and day out for a busy cafe.
Service was prompt but they charged me for an extra tea so please check your bill before paying.
In all, I feel that this is a major tourist trap so will certainly avoid in the future. For the record, we were here too in August last year but we ate at one of the other cafes and the food quality was...
Read moreWe had a fantastic dinner at Menega Café in Jimbaran, one of the most popular spots along the beach for fresh seafood. The setting is beautiful — tables right on the sand, sea breeze in the air, and waves just a few steps away. It’s a lively place, yet still relaxed, and the perfect atmosphere for a family meal.
Instead of the usual grilled style, we opted to have our seafood steamed, and it turned out to be a great choice. We ordered quite a spread: 1kg of prawns, 2 lobsters, 2 crabs, vegetables, eggs, mee goreng, and a fish soup for the kids. The seafood was fresh, naturally sweet, and perfectly cooked. Steaming really brought out the clean flavors, especially for the lobster and crab, which were tender and juicy. The prawns were plump and flavorful, and even the kids enjoyed the simple but tasty fish soup. The mee goreng and vegetables balanced the meal nicely.
The total came up to around 3 million rupiah, which we felt was fair considering the amount and variety of seafood we ordered, plus the unique beachfront dining experience. The portions were generous and satisfying for the whole family.
Dining here is about more than just the food — the beachside atmosphere is what makes it special. Watching the sunset while waiting for our dishes, hearing the waves, and seeing families and friends enjoying their meals around us created a wonderful, lively vibe. The staff were friendly and efficient, helping us with our order and making sure everything came out the way we wanted.
Overall, Menega Café delivered a memorable evening with fresh seafood, great service, and the unbeatable experience of dining right on Jimbaran Beach. If you prefer something lighter and less smoky than grilled seafood, definitely try requesting it steamed — we really enjoyed it this way. Highly recommended for anyone visiting...
Read moreWORST FOOD EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER TRIED IN BALI! I went to Menega Restaurant with three of my friends. One of the waiter told me after choosing the table I need to go to the in front of restaurant in order to choose the menu. I have experienced racism during waiting for the queue. I came to the front and went to the staff WHICH is currently not doing anything but all of sudden he asked us to step back to follow the queue. However, he greeted the Caucasian who just arrived later but he decided to serve him FIRST. During my turn, I complained to the staff about this but he has no response at all as if he DID not listen to what I said. My friends and l just stay silent for this problem until one of the waitress came to deliver our food but he accidentally spoil the food and he did not even saying SORRY but instead LAUGHING with the other waitress. The staff name is AGUS. I hardly complained to the manager, PUTRA, about the issues but seems like it was nothing to him. Instead, he’s bragging about his 15 years experience in cruise and kept cutting us to speak. He told us that he will immediately fired the staff but that is not the right options to do. You might do something better like doing training for the employee. Overall, it was the WORST restaurant I have ever tried in Bali. The food is NOT special at all. The taste is quite bland. It served cold and also tastes like the food from a few hours ago. The crab and the shrimp is NOT fresh at all, if you are selling fresh seafood, that is not what I got today. I hope the management team could improve how the way they handle the customer because I also work in customer service field so I do understand how the Standard Operating Procedure should be. Here I also attached the prove the way the waitress serve the food to our table and also the stain of the...
