I had read that the seafood at the restaurants along Jimbaran Beach was some of the best and freshest in Bali due to its proximity to the local fish market, so, as a lover of seafood, I knew we had to check the area out.
After some research, I decided that I wanted to go to Made Bagus Café due to the positive reviews.
We were able to sit at a table right on the beach with the lovely soft sand between our toes, but unfortunately it was overcast the evening we went, so weren’t able to see the sunset.
However, the food more than made up for it. I love it when we are able to go pick our own seafood from the tanks, and this is what we were able to do here.
We picked: Whole grilled red snapper with Sambal - the fish flesh fell off the bone and was beautifully juicy and flavourful. For us, as spice lovers, I would have preferred the Sambal to have more of a kick. Grilled tiger prawns covered in garlic - these were also tender and delicious, and I loved the amount of garlic layered over them. Clams in a tomato sauce - nice, big clams that had good flavour, but again, some spice to the sauce would’ve made this dish perfect. Calamari (deep fried squid) - I sometimes find the squid too chewy and rubbery, but this was cooked to perfection. These were all served with rice and salad, but we were perfectly happy just focusing on...
Read morePhenomenal place for a dinner sitting right on the beach. Select your own sea food before entering the dining area. Superb value for money, great service, very very friendly staff. All in all - you won’t get seafood like this at this price, in a setting like this, with service like this anywhere else!! We tried the lobster, tiger prawns and red snapper. Everything was great but the red snapper was the show stopper being the juiciest and the freshest although the lobster cost the most. The seafood comes accompanied with rice, water morning glory, a couple of sambols and ketchup manise. So order keeping this in mind. Also their drinks are nice and reasonably priced for a place like this. Try and prebook a table and you will be treated with extra care although this is not absolutely necessary. Cicina who took our reservation on phone and Made who served us were absolutely fantastic, genuine with their service and keen to make customers happy. When in Bali - eating seafood at Jinbaran beach is an absolute must do and Made Bagus is right up there amongst all...
Read moreKnowing we would want to eat somewhere along this beach I picked this place because I read good things about it on someone’s Bali blog. I can’t compare it to other restaurants in the same strip of beach because this is the only one we went to, but I have to say it was very busy (the staff kept having to put more tables on the sand), while looking along the beach the other similar places were largely rather empty. A good sign.
The owners/staff were terrific — welcoming, friendly, smiling and attentive to customer needs. We ordered one of their sharing menus (crab, prawns, fish, clams, satay squid and vegetables). And it was damn good, too. Very fresh-tasting, perfectly cooked, good sauces, and good chilli dips. They clearly know what they are doing when it comes to seafood! And the bill including a beer and a coconut was under IDR500,000 — excellent value we thought. Good for them. They deserve the success.
I’d go back to the same place like a shot if I’m in...
