My family travelled to Bali to celebrate my father's 70th, and to mark the occasion we thought we'd head out from our resort to somewhere special for lunch and chose the Reef Beach Club. We booked in advanced, given that we were in a group of 6, dressed up nice and made our way to the Apurva Kempinski hotel, where the Reef Beach Club is located.
Be prepared that the Apurva Kempinski is massive and it's a long walk from where the car drops you off to the Beach Club. The lobby is huge, and just getting from the entry to the end of the building takes several minutes walk. Then it's an elevator down to the ground floor and a buggy to the Reef Beach Club. The views are amazing and worth taking in, but I'm glad we'd arrived early as it was a 10 minute trip from the front door to the restaurant, so be prepared and don't have any mobility issues!
When we arrived, the front of house staff made it quite clear they were put out by our booking and had made no effort to reserve us space. They wanted to split our group between tables which we said no to (I mean, that's the point of booking a table). They were able to pull something together, but despite booking for inside, we were sat outside where it was noisy. So much so that it was difficult to hold a conversation.
The wait staff were lovely and attentive and were able to point out gluten free options on the menu for my mother. She opted for beef nachos, but when they came out, there was no beef. We thought perhaps the beef mix had gluten in it (?), but then my sister who also ordered nachos (NOT gluten free) didn't have beef either. The staff seemed confused that we were confused, but brought out fresh nachos (with beef) in anycase. The remaining food was good. I had the beef maranggi skewer which was beautiful! In particular, the sambal colo-colo sauce was incredible.
Despite the noise, it was lovely outside. The breeze from the ocean made it pleasant to sit outside and the views of the hotel were ridiculous. We would have loved to have had time to stay for desert as they read up really well, but having lost so much time to travel and waiting for a table, it was not meant to be.
The prices are more than you're going to pay almost anywhere else in Bali, but traveling from Australia, it wasn't much more than what you'd pay for a meal here, so we took the financial hit.
I wouldn't go out of your way to visit the Reef Beach Club, but if you're wanting to have a sticky beak of the hotel, a visit to the Reef Beach Club will take you on a scenic tour of a lot of it with some tasty food and...
Read moreIf you’re visiting Bali and staying at The Apurva Kempinski, Reef Beach Club is an absolute must. We had the most relaxing and memorable evening here. The oceanfront view is stunning picture-perfect, with the sound of waves in the background and a soft sea breeze brushing through the open-air seating. The outdoor setup is beautifully done, creating that perfect beach-chic vibe that feels both elevated and laid back.
The live music was the cherry on top smooth acoustic vocals that added just the right ambiance without overpowering the moment. It really set the tone for a relaxing evening under the stars.
Now let’s talk food and service both were exceptional. The menu had a great variety, with something for everyone, and everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. But what truly made the experience special was our server, Santi. She was warm, attentive, and made us feel truly taken care of from start to finish. Her recommendations were spot on, and her genuine smile made the night even more memorable.
Reef Beach Club isn’t just a restaurant it’s an experience. Come for the view, stay for the vibe, and leave dreaming about your next visit.
Highly recommend it for couples, families, or anyone wanting to soak in the Bali...
Read more27 February 2023 Edit Review after being invited to the Pala restaurant. The Food and Beverage Sales Manager invited us to have another view of the Kempinski Restaurant. We went this time to the Pala Rooftop restaurant, which was nice, no noise, time to deliver was correct and the staff was very kind. I want to thank the Kempinski to taking care of the remarks and give us a chance to appreciate at the real level the Kempinski hospitality. I will correct this time to 4 stars our general appreciation of the hospitality of Kempinski Hotel and restaurant. Reagrds François Moser Not really what I expected for such a place…. The genset (electric generator) are running just near the restaurant… I’m quiet disappointed I just cannot hear my friends around my own table… Will see when we receive the food…
Just an update, as we just received in 30 minutes each plate. We took sharing platter jimbaran and satay campur. All coming piece by piece… we received the satay, already cold. Than 30 minutes later the sea plate, but still waiting the rice… maybe a chance to have it before we finish the food…
One more, as I complain, the offer me the drink… but even that does not help the total mess...
