Unusual and unfriendly service, and average food. We came to this restaurant twice when in Uluwatu due to minimal options as I experienced a motorbike accident when in Bali and was somewhat immobile, and this restaurant was next door to our Airbnb. The first time we went for dinner I got the Gado Gado which I asked to be made vegan, and I can do so much as to hope that the honoured my request. It was serviced with what I assume were prawn cracked, which I had asked to be served without, and the dish was overall nothing special but filled me up and was affordable. I did, however, have to pay for a small bottle of water as they didn’t offer table water. The second night we went right before heading to the airport and that time I got the Mixed Green Salad without the egg and sauce, and I actually really enjoyed it. It was relatively expensive for what it was (45k, from memory) especially compared to the value of other dishes on the menu, but it was nice. It was served with garlic bread which I overlooked when ordering, but offered it to my friend who I was with. She remarked that the butter was weirdly grainy and the bread under toasted. She had half a piece and left the rest. We ended up using the free wifi to order a Grab to the airport, but struggled to get accepted due to the harassment the drivers get from the local taxis, and were given death stares by some of the staff at Ulu Resto who were sitting...
Read moreWe had breakfast in one morning and came back for lunch on another day. The portions are big, really big that it should be enough for the most hungry person. They have a good menu with some western dishes to cater for everyone. The chef/owner lived in Europe for 20+ years and brought some good dishes from there. The coffee is of a good quality too, and I'm picky about good coffee. In short, this is an amazing place that I'll recommend to anyone going to Bali. Now a bit of the story of how we got there. We're driving home in the evening from the Uluwatu temple and in the middle of the way in a dark road our bike got no more petrol (my fault). We stopped in front of a car entrance for a house, we called to see if anyone was around and a very friendly Dutch man came to see what was going on, he then called a friend that leaves there too and they drove their bike to the nearest place for petrol and got a liter for us. We then chatted for a while and the Dutch man was retired and living in Bali for 22 years, the other man is the owner of Ulu Resto and mentioned that restaurant, etc. We thanked their help and said we'd go to Ulu for breakfast the following morning. We did drive 16km to go there for breakfast, the least we could do to say thanks again, and they initially didn't recognize us and didn't belived we'd actually go there. We honoured our words and did so, making their day and ours too for meeting such...
Read moreI've been going to Wayan's eateries for years(his previous restaurant was on the corner, near the Temple entrance). He's always been known for really tasty, clean meals, at a good price, presented with a friendly smile. I think he's carried that tradition over into the updated premises. The menu retains all the favourites from before, with some delicious new additions. My typical meal after a day in the surf would start with the Mushroom soup with garlic bread, followed by the Chicken salad, backed-up by either the Mahi Mahi Curry dish, or Pork Schnitzel(surfing really takes it out of you). And to finish it all off, Wayan's Apple Crumble with ice-cream really rocks. All served with cold, cold Bintangs. The music is pretty chilled and the atmosphere very relaxed. So, it's obvious that I would recommend Wayan's Ulu Resto to my friends, as well as anyone I meet who intends to eat in the Uluwatu area. He's an...
