After spending a week exploring Seminyak’s café scene, my friend and I were genuinely excited to try Baked. It had come highly recommended online, and given how much we’d loved places like Sisterfields, Coffee Cartel, Bread Yard, and The Hut, we had high hopes that this would be another standout spot. Unfortunately, Baked fell flat in every possible way.
The experience was underwhelming from the start. There’s no table service – you’re expected to either order through your phone or queue up at the front counter, which disrupts the relaxed café vibe we’d grown to love elsewhere. When we went to order, my friend asked for the scramble with a side of bacon and avocado, only to be told they had run out of avocados — at a place known for brunch in Bali, of all places. That alone felt a bit ridiculous. I had originally planned to get the avo toast (of course), but had to pivot and went for the tortilla de patatas instead. We also ordered two iced oat lattes.
The food was visually appealing, but that’s where the positives end. Everything was completely bland. We had to ask for salt, pepper, and chilli oil just to give the dishes some flavour. My tortilla was essentially a dry, flavourless potato-egg slab drowned in cream, with a pile of mismatched greens that added nothing. My friend’s scramble upset her stomach almost immediately, and for some reason her coffee was noticeably sweeter than mine — which made no sense given we ordered the exact same thing.
We honestly couldn’t believe how off the mark the whole experience was, especially in a location where we’ve had nothing but incredible meals up until this point. It’s a shame to see a venue with so much buzz turn out to be such a letdown. If you’re tossing up between Baked and literally any other café in the area — do yourself a favour and go across the road to...
Read moreMy friend and I had a very unpleasant experience with the cashier last month. We were only ordering the drinks as it was way past lunch time and we were dining in. The cashier asked if we would like the takeaway cup or the normal glass. We weren't sure why she asked that because she already asked if we were dining in or not but since my friend picked the cup I just said the same. After that she told us that the cup was Rp 4.000 extra charge (would have been nice if she informed us in the beginning when she asked). I thought well I didn't really need the cup anyway since we were dining in so I said to her we'll just get the normal glass.
I am well aware that the extra charge is not much but I thought why would I waste my money on a cup when I can use a glass..? I don't think they should even be encouraging their customers to get the cup since Bali is also trying to reduce plastic waste.
When I told her we would just go with the normal glass she responded with "huh seriously???" (her actual words were: hah serius kak???) with a sassy tone. Then proceeded to say that the cup was aesthetic for pictures etc etc. I just thought well there was no way I would post the drink now after that attitude...
I don't think she thought that remark was a big deal but looking back I regretted not bringing this incident to the manager. She should learn to respond nicely when a customer says no instead of gaslighting.
We went back the next day to have the eggs and it was good. The cashier was different and there were no snarky comments. The drinks took a while though. I had to call out the waiter passing by twice...
Read moreWell, I was soooooo disappointed with their recent food quality. I was a regular back then at their first branch in Canggu esp in 2021. I was a huuuuge fan of their Ricotta Hotcake. The strawberry one you see is the Ricotta Hotcake I know from my visits in 2021. Very rich, delicious and, portion wise, generous. But when I came back again, this time at their branch in Seminyak Village, I was so surprised their Ricotta Hotcake looked so different (the blueberry one). And it was a hot mess. Not hot enough, def not tasty and super expensive. I mean I can make it by myself if it looks like this. I understand if there’s some menu adjustment or changing, but you are joking if you are charging this amount of of money for this kinda bland food? Not even the plating was good. And we didn’t even finish the food and it’s rarely to me to not finish my food no matter how bad the food is. So you can guess.
And the scrambled egg? Their pinnacle menu? A huge downfall and def a huge letdown. I knew it was not freshly made because it was barely warm even my friend asked me, “is it not freshly made? Because it’s not hot and even the bowl is not warm”. Adding to that, it’s too watery. And they charged more for this menu. I was so excited to bring along my friend with me because she’s never been to Baked before and I was kinda overselling it, “oh you should try it, they’re the best, esp the scrambled egg” and after we tasted the egg, I felt embarrassed and even apologized to her.
The coffee was decent. Definitely, they lose their once-a-regular-customer. I definitely will not come back here. Super...
