The Santorini Greek Restaurant in Seminyak was one of my most exciting restaurant finds in Bali for a long time. After 20 years going to Bali (and Seminyak) I was so stoked to find a good Greek restaurant. I think.
40 years ago, I slept on the black sand beaches of Santorini. What I experienced then (and now) is very, very different. But I have since been to Greece well over 20 times. I wanted to see how this place stacked up.
This restaurant is the first Greek restaurant that I have eaten at in Bali. I never saw the point of going to Asia to eat Greek food...until I ate Nasi Goreng every day :) It's like a Pom going to Ibiza to have a curry! But now I explore the never-ending eating entities from around the globe.
I loved the atmosphere, the white grouted pavers, blue lighting and Greek feel. Even the owner smoking cigarettes on a four-top table commanding troops, was like a Greek General and verifiably Greek authentic. His soldiers were working to a battle plan...even though they were Balinese waitresses.
You do feel like a Tetris piece when you arrive. It's all about whether you can fit into a small space, in a hurry! Money before honey. I have been here three times now, and this has not changed.
I know I'm currency.
But the food is about 7.5 out of 10. When it eventually comes out. It is not quick. Neither are the drinks. So patience is required.
On all three occasions there was not enough pita bread for the souvalaki, dips or anything. And when you ask for more....guess what...you wait again. A lot.
The owner's son was there on one of my three trips. He was really good. At PR and dealing with a slow kitchen, bar and more. I gave Santorini Greek Restaurant in Seminyak a 5-star...just.
The local Balinese waitresses were really great (and knowledgeable). And as I said, I really love this place. I have not commented on the meals because I think you need to experience it...
Read moreWe first came to the Seminyak restaurant on the 1st of march. We came here for dinner and the place was super busy, we sat down and ordered our food and it came very quickly even for how busy they were! We had a good experience the first time coming here - I think the owner was here also folding the cutlery and keeping the staff in check. However, we went yesterday around 4pm for a late lunch, the place was half as busy as the first time we went. There was something off about the staff yesterday. Service was very quiet, slow and they didn’t care. When we walked into the restaurant no one wanted to seat us, we had to seat ourselves, we had to ask someone to come over and wipe the table and remove the dirty dishes that were on the table. We ordered food, our entree came out fresh but came without hummus but it should’ve come with hummus stating on their menu) we waited around 5 minutes for hummus until we asked the staff where our hummus was. Then it took another 10 minutes until our hummas arrive, we had to ask them to heat up our pita.. that took another 5 minutes! Our main dishes didn’t arrive till 18 minutes after that. We also had to follow up with our mains to them how far it would take. My main came out 18 minutes after my entree, and my husbands main came out 5 minutes after my main.. after dinner we called over a waiter and asked them for a can of coke. She took our order and left, around 5 minutes the can of coke never came but when we were looking around there was 4 people behind the bar just talking to each other! 2 girls 2 boys! They weren’t busy at all. On top of that they had two girls standing around holding menus while there was 2 girls behind the counter with the two boys. I don’t know, we ended up cancelling our coke order and paid for our table and left. Seems like this place is only good when the boss is sitting there. Management definitely needs to...
Read moreDrawn in by the reviews, we had high expectations from Santorini and were looking forward to our visit. Alas, the reality wasn't quite up to the hype. We had booked a table earlier in the afternoon, and then turned up on time and were shown to our table. All good. That was the end of good service. We had to chase be served, ordering drinks, starters and mains. Drinks came - although my red wine was straight out of a fridge. 30 minutes.it took to get a pot of warm water to bring it up to room temperature. I just sat waiting whilst my wife enjoyed her cocktail. Then my wife received her starter - grilled halloumi - albeit covered in olive oil, which she was hoping to avoid by choosing grilled over fried. My starter took another 20 minutes. I had zoukini fritters - fresh and crisp on the outside, mush in the middle. I left half, althought this was unnoticed by waiting staff. Then mains. My wife had mousakka, which she loved. I had mixed gyros, which was average at best, and again left half. When collecting I was asked how the food was and my reply of "average at best" was acknowledged with a "oh really glad to hear it sir". Perhaps some language issues. Finally, dessert. My wife ordered ice cream, I ordered bakklava. Her ice cream arrived, without cutlery and sat melting until we could flag someone down to get her a spoon (which was a dessert spoon - so apt if inappropriate). My bakklava never arrived. Only on ordering the bill, when the owner overheard the discussion, were we able to make sensible comments. These were handled well. We paid for what we accepted was with paying for, and the owner commited to update her staff. From what we heard, she didn't wait. Good. A great ambience in a busy eatery, undermined by not the best food and below par service.
