I recently stayed at the Astagina Resort Villa and Spa in Legian, Bali, and my overall experience was a bit of a mixed bag. While the resort had some notable strengths, it also had several shortcomings that left me with mixed feelings.
Let's start with the positive aspects. The staff at the Astagina Resort Villa and Spa were exceptional. From the moment I checked in until the day of my departure, their attentiveness and willingness to assist were truly impressive. The service-oriented approach of the staff added a warm and welcoming touch to my stay.
The buffet breakfast was a highlight of my mornings at the resort. The variety of options and the quality of the food were commendable. It provided a great start to each day, ensuring guests had a hearty meal to kickstart their Bali adventures.
However, there were several notable drawbacks that affected my overall comfort during the stay. First and foremost, the bed in my room was extremely hard, which made for restless nights. This was quite disappointing as a comfortable bed is a fundamental expectation for any accommodation.
Another issue I encountered was the slippery floors in the room, which posed a safety hazard. I felt cautious and uneasy walking around, one morning slipping as I got out of bed, resulting in slamming both feet into the wall and breaking a toe.
The patchy Wi-Fi was a minor inconvenience, but in today's digital age, reliable internet access is important for both work and leisure travellers.
One of the most disappointing aspects was the main pool. It didn't receive much sunlight, resulting in a consistently cold pool temperature, which made it less inviting for a swim.
On a more positive note, the resort's location is indeed a strong point. It's conveniently situated within walking distance to the hotspots of Legian, Double Six, and Seminyak. Additionally, the short 6-minute walk to Double Six Beach was a perk for beach lovers.
I must also commend the day spa at the Astagina Resort Villa and Spa, which was a true oasis of relaxation. The spa offered a wide range of rejuvenating treatments and massages that allowed guests to unwind and pamper themselves. The therapists provided a tranquil and soothing experience that helped melt away the stress of daily life. After a long day of exploring Bali, the day spa was a welcome retreat, and I found it to be a highlight of my stay, providing a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding areas.
In conclusion, my stay at the Astagina Resort Villa and Spa had its ups and downs. While the staff's exceptional service and the delicious breakfast were highlights, the uncomfortable bed, slippery floors, patchy Wi-Fi, and cold main pool left me less than satisfied. Considering these factors, I wouldn't choose to stay here again, even though the location is quite convenient for exploring the vibrant areas of Legian...
Read moreWe had a lovely and wonderful long stay at the Astagina. The resort is definitely an oasis in the urban jungle that is Legian. The staff at the resort are extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. They can't do enough for you, and are quick to resolve any issues. All the rooms are spotless, beds comfortable, air conditioning works great, most balconies offer pretty views of the gardens or pool. Unfortunately, in some of the rooms with a combined shower/bath, water tends to leak onto the bathroom floor. But, this was not a big issue and we hope the management can fix this in the future. In our opinion, if you're staying in a deluxe terrace room, it is not worth an upgrade to a Suite, due to the strange layout of the Suite room. Instead, as a splurge, you may want to opt for one of the one or two bedroom villas which have their own private pools.
The breakfast buffet is top notch with a lot of variety and the menu changes daily. There's an omelette station, fruit juices, pancake station, and a wide selection of fresh fruit. There are Indonesian and international food choices. A daily, complimentary afternoon tea/coffee with snacks is a nice welcome treat.
The main pool is a good size and offers a swim up bar, sun loungers and beds, along with towel service. There's also a daily poolside happy hour with two for one cocktails. If the main pool becomes a bit of a noisy distraction due to the music, there's a second pool which offers more tranquility.
Attached to the resort is the Anjali Spa which has very competitive prices and an outstanding range of treatments to choose from. They often offer various promotions from time to time. All the therapists are very professional and skilled in their practice. Try the 60 min Balinese massage, and add on a 30 Min body scrub....and you likely won't want to leave the resort during your stay...which makes for a perfect get-away-from-it-all escape!
But, when you want to venture out of the resort bubble, there are a myriad of restaurants, bars, convenience stores and cafes at your doorstep. As well, it's only a 10 minute walk to Double Six beach, where there are ample opportunities for live music, bean bag chairs, long walks, and great sunsets.
We appreciate all the hospitality we received from the staff at Astagina and would definitely return...
Read moreThis hotel was the lowlight of my trip to Bali, with 100% certainty! We stayed 4 nights and on the 1st night, the room (mainly coming from the bathroom) smelled like sewage. It was so terrible that my kids actually each had a headache. The next morning I noticed that all the planters were dug up and the pipes were all being repaired. Clearly they had a plumbing problem, something they didn't even really deny when I asked. After complaining to the front desk, they summoned the manager, Dwi to talk with me. He was careful to usher me away to a private area away from all guests. He had a positive attitude, offered to move me, and asked what more he could do. I told him my kids felt sick, the sewage smell was unbearable, and I'd appreciate it if he just takes care of the cost of the previous night and moved our room. He nodded and agreed.
Fast forward....I went to check out of the hotel 3 days later and asked about the cost of the initial night and if it was taken care of. I was told NO. The front desk called Dwi on his phone (he was not there that day) and he said they weren't covering it. Apparently they had decided to cover 1/2 of the cost of my food/massage from the pool ($50 USD) and that was it. I was confused, asked to personally speak to him on the phone and pleaded with him. How could he not be covering the cost of the room when it smelled like sewage all night and my kids got a headache from it? I appreciated the coverage of the food, but It would seem like common sense to cover the room ($165 USD) given people were up at night sick from a sewage smell. It wasn't much to ask given the situation, was it? Apparently it was!
And here's the best part....The day we had moved from the smelly room, they put another guest in there! The trick (I'm being serious) tons of air freshener. I noticed in our new room that they had air fresheners plugged in everywhere, which clearly they put in the old room to cover the smell.
I hope this review helps people identify the character of the management of this hotel. Had they done the right thing, I wouldn't be writing this review. I don't think anyone with any common sense would make a guest pay for staying in a room with a sewage smell for the...
