Sate Babi Bawah Pohon Legian Bali August 2019
Sate babi (8 satays with ketupat) for 30 K IDR
They really do deserve their accolades, their satays are all top notch. One can also opt for 10 satays for 30 K, but i would say that their ketupat (rice cake) is actually really good as well, so perhaps one should order a portion of the 10 and another of the 8 with ketupat or tipat. Yes, order two, because it is that good, you won't regret it. Well, at least there will be no regrets for ingesting it 😜
Why are they so good? Because the satays are soft, well seasoned with that nice and appropriate hint of spiciness while still being smokey enough and still has some good charring on the outside. Subsequently, they also give you a side of red sambal which is nice and relatively subtle in flavour as well as a spoonful of coarse sea salt and a smallish, green-yellowish pepper with a really crunchy bite yet has the kick of a habanero. So for those of you who like it only a bit spicier with a well cooked sambal then go for the red one, while those of you who really want a crunchy kick then go for the raw chilies.
Finally, they do have so many other options but i have to say that the soto babi for 25 K (iirc) was quite underwhelming. I will have to revisit them some day to try the other stuff, but they really are good and worth visiting - heck i visited them twice in a week when i was there three weeks ago. Finally, their drink menu is also quite extensive and actually carries some really good options like the coconut shavings with orange juice for 15 K (iirc). They do tend to give a bit too much syrup, but one can easily ask for no sugar or just don't stir to the bottom.

The new location feels completely different – way better! Spacious parking, large dining area – overall a big upgrade. Now you can enjoy your food without worrying about the rain or heat.
They now use a pay-first system at the counter, and the menu has expanded a lot compared to the old stall days. Some of the highlights include: Pork Fried Rice Betutu Chicken Rice Sweet Soy Pork Crispy Pork Rice Sam-Sam Guling Rice Babi Guling Rice Sate Lilit …and more!
The dining area is very roomy with plenty of basic wooden tables and benches, enough to fit lots of customers.
As for the pork satay? Still tastes as good as ever – sweet, tender, and slightly savory. Their babi guling rice is okay – nothing special, but decent. Service is quite fast and friendly, but be warned: avoid peak meal times or you’ll be waiting in a long queue.
