MAMA Toko Kue dan Es Krim — Restaurant in Makassar

We visited this place several times, firstly on the recommendation of our friend, then because of the growing fond of this place on the heart of one of us. One of the old shop in Makassar, they specialized on traditional snacks and ice cream, but they also offered home-styled menu here. We ordered gado-gado komplit (29 K), nasi kuning (53 K), ice tea (12 K), sarabba (22 K), egg tart (10.5 K), kroket (9 K), lemper ayam (8 K), and onde wijen (7 K) excl. taxes. They were tasted quite good 👍 The nasi kuning was tasted differently that we have in Java but it was good. The place was comfortable and beautiful, especially the open space one. Homey and traditional feeling that we had made it a good experience for us.

Recommendation: better visit here in the morning, the snack variations are still...

After 4 days in Tanah Toraja I arrived in Makassar en route to Bali. I had about 7 hours to spend so I got a taxi and did a deal for a look about Makassar. It was very hot after the highlands.

I read about Mama Café having good homemade ice cream. The location was at best unprepossessing, but then again much of Makassar and for that matter; many Indonesian cities are the same. They did not lie! I would almost go back to Makassar for this ice cream it is fabulous! There is also a very good selection of Indonesian and Western-style cakes available as well as some food, which I did not try. I was much too excited about the ice cream

Don't miss this place if you are in Makassar and like ice cream. Even if you don't like ice cream you probably will after...

Legendary cafe which starts off selling variety of snacks and pastries. Nowadays they still sell those products along with other light meals. We tried the bubur manado which surprisingly packs a great flavour and must try despite the hot weather. We also tried one of Makassar famous dessert, es Pisang Hijau (green banana ice).
