La Rossa Penida Restaurant & Nonas Night Club — Restaurant in Nusa Penida Subdistrict

Way too expensive restaurant, with good but very very small portions. (You definitely won’t get enough of a dish! We spent more than 700k IDR (40€), left, still being hungry).

The location of La Rossa Penida is excellent, right by the beach, with a cozy atmosphere and live band entertainment in the evening. The setting is beautiful, and the overall vibe is really enjoyable.

When it comes to the food, however, we left somewhat disappointed. The taste was fine, but not remarkable, especially considering the prices. Portion sizes are very small—almost like children’s portions—yet priced at near-European levels. Being familiar with local living costs and salaries, the price-to-portion ratio does not feel fair.

A good indicator is the beer pricing: a small Bintang usually costs around 40–50k IDR in most restaurants, while here it is charged at 80k IDR—an increase of roughly 60–100% compared to standard prices. Therefore I didn’t even order a beer and asked for a tonic water (40k) and a mango juice. The menu is divided into “small plates” and “big plates,” but the difference is questionable. I ordered the BBQ pork ribs for 150k. After accounting for the bones, the actual meat portion was probably less than 100 grams. It came with a tiny side of coleslaw and a very small portion of fries. For this price, other restaurants offer significantly larger servings, more meat, more sides, and at least equal quality.

Drinks in general, and especially alcoholic beverages, are also considerably overpriced. While the location and atmosphere are definitely appealing, they do not fully compensate for the unbalanced pricing and portion sizes.

It's a beach club that has a great pool overlooking the beach. You can feel the luxurious atmosphere with live music. On the first entry, I ordered Butterfield Whole Fish, 200G T Bones Steak, Pork Ribs BBQ, and 24K Golden Beef Stick because of the great hospitality. But when the food came out, the whole atmosphere was gone. They were all so amazing except Fish. At least 24K Golden Beef could give a good score. But the Pork Rib was less than half the size, and the T bones Steak was of crazy quality that I've never seen in the world. I'm going to post a picture below, so check it out. Plus, the price of drinks here is crazy. It's more expensive than a five-star hotel. It's amazing who made this ridiculous price. A small 330ml bottle of water is 50K and a small bintang beer is 85K. In addition, 7% service fee and 11% government tax are added. In general, the price of food + 7% SV + 11% Tax is not calculated like this (food price + 7%) X government tax of 11%. It is 50KX1.07X1.11 = 59.39K based on 330ml bottled water and 85KX1.07X1.11 = 100.95K based on Small Bintang. There is a magic that bottled water prices become beer prices and beer prices become cocktail prices. Serious Privacy Issues and Poor Quality Overall

We had an extremely disappointing stay at this hotel. After connecting to their Wi-Fi, we noticed unauthorized activity on our Gmail account. Fake reviews were posted under our name, written in broken and awkward English—something we would never write ourselves. English is widely spoken in the Philippines, so seeing a review supposedly written by us in such poor English is both insulting and unacceptable. This raises serious concerns about data privacy and security.

We strongly advise against using their Wi-Fi, as it appears to be unsafe and potentially used to access personal information without consent.

The experience didn’t get better from there. The food was poorly prepared, lacked flavor, and was priced far too high for the quality. For what they charge, we expected something decent, but unfortunately, it was far from acceptable.

Overall, this hotel is not safe, not worth the cost, and not recommended. Look elsewhere if you care about your privacy, your time, and...
