Jungle Fish setting and location is beautiful. The food and drink are superb and the staff are amazing. We reserved a day bed which had a reasonable minimum spend of 900k (easily done between two people). The staff allowed us to move to/from the day bed to the sun loungers upstairs beside the pool while the day beds were stuck in shade in the earlier hours. This would probably be one of my few criticisms - that the Day Bed’s (the most expensive beds available to rent) are pretty much stuck in shade all day long. It’s great there’s umbrellas but you need staff assistance to take the umbrella’s down due to the way they are risen and tied. Also the day beds are quite close to one enough so if your umbrella is down; the one to the bed next to you will shade one side of your day bed. Hard also to get the staff’s assistance for this as they do not patrol the day bed level downstairs so you have to walk upstairs to get someone’s attention or make an order in general. After already asking to move to the sun loungers we didn’t want to make a fuss over putting umbrella’s up and down, especially when the trees still continue to shade 50% of the bed regardless of whether the umbrella is down or not.
The other things I would mention would be the smell of the drains/sewage which can be smelt near the front side of the club venue (both pool side but mainly whenever walking to or from the day beds to the pool). I appreciate this is difficult as the toilet is clearly under the entrance to the pool on the lower level but it does mean you smell sewage every time you walk around the front of the pool.
Kids slowly ruined the tranquility for the unfortunately. I appreciate the venue is not responsible for peoples children but I think it’s important that as a venue which is a pool/beach club charging a minimum spend to guests, that paying guests do not have the unwanted experience of children jumping in the pool from the side for hours on end, especially as it causes splashing to the day bed guests on the lower level! The kids continued to do so even after being told not to once by staff and the staff explaining it splashes guests on the day beds. It’s important staff ensure all guests are responsible and respectful for each other, especially parents for their children. We left slightly early as a result of this which was a great shame. We spent a lot and absolutely loved how quiet it was compared to other beach clubs. The wait for food and drinks was very reasonable and the quality was superb. Again, staff incredibly friendly and helpful.
I would really encourage the venue/hotel to instate a simple ‘no jumping in the pool’ rule + sign to fix the issue. Considering the pool isn’t deep enough to jump or dive in anyway, this is something very standard in most other venues/countries.
We would recommend Jungle Fish for the setting, facilities, food and drink quality as well as service from the staff. It would have been a five star review if not for the children and us as well as other day guest beds...
Read moreOn Day 02 of a six day stay in Ubud, Bali, my family and I visited Jungle Fish (JF). It was an incredible experience and a great way to step into our holiday. We visited many day clubs while in Ubud. Jungle Fish is easily Top 2 and it is #1 for us because of the location, the food, the drinks, the facilities, the vibe (chill & low key during our time slot), the music, and the cost (2M IDR) to reserve a hanging day bed which was easy to meet for four adults and how good the food & drinks were.
The Location. MEMORABLE. JF resides within Chapung Sebali which is nestled within a lush, green, and picturesque jungle. It gets hot during the day so we switched from the hanging day bed to a more shaded and protected spot on one of the sofas.
The Food & The Drinks. FANTASTIC. In our opinion, JF has Best Small Bites in Bali. The Chicken Popcorn is amazing. So much so that we had five orders and put that sauce onto their spicy fried chicken sandwich. The Prawn Wontons and Vegetable Lumpia were outstanding as well. The adult beverages were very good and different because unlike most of the rest of Bali, they balance the use of lime and sugar the best for our taste - other places struggle with too much lime/acid and not enough sugar making drinks more bitter and/or more sour than they should be. My favorite drink was a mocktail: the Lemon Julep.
The Facilities & The Vibe. After a walk down into the heart & soul of the location, you see the pool overlooking the green brilliance and radiance of the jungle. JF is lined with day beds, sofas, caves, and tables. The bathrooms could and probably should be better but after eating, drinking, and wading in the water, it took me until now to identify that flaw. I took an excursion outside of JF to pursue the location (the chapung sebali property) and that chill, zen vibe flows everywhere: in the flora, the architecture, choice of woods, artifacts. All intentional like the chill, lo-fi music played at JF.
Enough said. Just go to Jungle Fish....
