Update: if you’re vegetarian or vegan, please don’t come here.
Sadly, I had to change my review to 1 star. I returned to the restaurant and ordered bun chay again. I made sure it was vegan, no egg, no butter, no fish sauce, etc. But later, I noticed that the menu said to make it vegan, you had to remove the spring rolls. But spring rolls are in the photo of the dish, and it had the same vegan symbol as other vegan options on the menu. And it uses the word chay, which everyone in Vietnam used if I didn’t eat egg as well.
Last time I was at the restaurant, I said I was vegan and didn’t eat egg, and they still served me the spring rolls. That’s not okay. The staff should be more informed, and the menu shouldn’t have the plant symbol by this dish, which they also use for vegan dishes on the menu. So the menu is not clearly labeled (vegan vs vegetarian). The staff definitely needs to know that the fried spring rolls contain egg and not serve it to vegan guests who don’t eat egg.
Also, they charge the same price for the dish even though you can’t get spring rolls or other components. However, they could just serve the vegan spring rolls with the dish.
Next, when we ordered bun chay but vegan and it had the egg rolls in it, we asked the manager what type of sauce came with the vegan bun chay, and he said fish sauce- which isn’t vegan or vegetarian. We’d already been eating the dish, so we were shocked. But then the kitchen told him it wasn’t fish sauce. So the staff doesn’t know the menu.
Thirdly, I ordered vegan pho, and the server said they had it. He repeated the order back to me “vegetarian pho” ever though I said vegan. However, in the end, he was bringing me pho with beef broth with vegetables. He tried to serve me beef broth thinking it was vegetarian. But beef broth isn’t vegetarian or vegan.
Basically, this place is chaotic.
So currently, the only vegan meal here is a banh mi but without mayonnaise and pate, but I don’t even know if it’s actually vegan because the staff doesn’t know anything...
Read moreSo, first of all: The opening hours are wrong. I came in at 9.30 and they said come back in an hour. The online hours should be changed. Came back in an hour and only soups or rice were available. They said half an hour for banh mi. I ordered a 1/2 size child pho while I waited for banh mi. The child pho was actually a good portion and the broth was amazing! It kept me happy while I waited for the banh mi. I ordered the King banh mi, it arrived and I was very underwhelmed by the amount of filling? What was I paying extra for? Luckily the flavours were perfect. I got the grilled pork. It tasted divine. The bread was slightly toasted to be a little crispy. The pate/mayo was dripping and the pork was well marinated. I have to give this place 4 stars, although I wanted to give 3... the food quality was above expectations for a place with almost no vietnamese people. Banh mi needs more filling! Fix your hours on Google maps so people don't arrive before it's open! Delicious! I might come back. Price for baby pho was 30,000 Banh mi "King" was 40,000 They do charge some tax and it came out at 80,200 total. I was satisfied and happy with my meal, but if you go just for banh mi it won't be as big as you're used to, so keep...
Read moreWe arrived at 19.00 on a Thursday night. There are many people for sure but they are not bus tour group (I see these answers often on the reviews), they are just group of friends of maximum 6 people per table. The only exciting part is that there’s finally a decent restaurant in Lovina but the worst part is that we waited 1 hour just for drinks, just 4 Iced Tea!!! We had our first spring roll out of 2 after 1hour. While we complained about our drinks not arriving, a group of 6 people who arrived after us asked the waiter where the drinks and food are. The waiter told them the wait is around 1 hour. Why you never told people in the beginning before they order? Before we order? Just because this restaurant is so famous in the Southern Bali part doesn’t mean they live up to their name. The king size sandwich here is only as big as a hand palm unlike the one in Canggu/Denpasar. Really disappointed with the service. If you can’t handle a full house then hire more staffs or don’t accept every guests! If you don’t expect a full house, have a look and do research on hotels nearby if they are fully booked which means you need more staffs on these...
